i picked up a carpet ( Stichodactyla Gigantea ) Friday night and thought i would post a few pic's. they are pretty bad but you'll get the idea :)

he is ~8" in diameter and has really nice blue tips but i am having a really hard time getting pics, the first 2 are with a book between the tank and the halildes to reduce glare and the last was taken with only the moon lights on.

i am running 400W 10K Venture bulbs ( burn more like 13K - 14K ) and he is on the bottom of a 24" deep tank. i have lots of flow and have been playing with the power heads to try and keep him happy. he hasn't moved since i put him in on Saturday morning, which i am taking as a good sign.

my false percula's don't appear interested in the least, i even thought the nem had eaten the female because she was nowhere to be found this morning. luckily she turned up and everything looks ok for his first night in the tank.

i have several BTA's that have kept their distance and tend to stay together in one corner but i thik i will have to sell some off to be on the safe side

let me know what you think

:D

It seems bleached and the tentacle density/length is a little short but with some TLC it should be a nice specimen!!! Good luck. Provide lots of light, flow, and some food and it will hopefully acclimate... :) Don't forget to get it some clowns when you feel comfortable doing so...

Nice carpet! I just got one a week ago. Must be cousins. Here's a pic from 5 minutes ago. Just fed it 30 minutes ago.

you aren't kidding they look very similar. thanks for the replies :)

so i decided to try a small meal of silversides to get him started. i circled them in the first pic because they get lost in all the tentacles.

couple of updated pics

couple of updated pics

he moved a little bit ( 3" - 6" ) a few days ago but not to far, i think he's just sick of me playing with the flow :eek1: i've been feeding mysis every other day, just a little bit and he is responding great.

here's a quick update pic and the best closeup i can get with my 2.1 MP camera. let me know what you think.......

Your right it sure is looking good.

Thanks for the pm today about the "black seeds" I sent one back to you with a few more questions.

well he moved a bit again, oddly enough away from the flow. he basically moved right behind the the big white rock and there was minimal flow. i removed the rock and adjusted the flow a bit. i keep saying i'm just going to let him be to get fully acclimatized to his knew home but after watching some of the other vids i can't help myself.

i've had him a week and a half, he is eating well, very sticky, holding his mouth tight, just wanders a little.

seems like everyone else is doing a Gigantea update so......

been with me 5 - 6 weeks

i was messing around with the aquascaping today, i decided to redo most of it, so he is a bit upset but i think his colour is better.

another crappy vid but there has been no flow in the tank for 10 min. and you can see the tentacles moving. you could actually see little pieces of particulate ( from aquascaping ) holding dead still right next to him.

thanks, still keeping my fingers crossed though he does seem happy ( at least when i'm not moving all the LR )

here's a night pic of the first contact ( i know its hard to see but she's there ) between my female clown and the nem. unfortunately by morning she had gone back to her boyfriend in the durso. but it made me very happy for the rest of the night.

i remember you mentioning the strawberry anemone, do you have any experience with them?? ( or anyone else ) i found a couple in my tank last year and hoped they would start a nice colony but they only want to grow in groups of 3 or 4. i'm wondering if i should just evict them, i'm not even sure how they thrive in my 80F+ water, as they are a cold water species......
