New addition firefish

Hi guys. Today I just got a firefish for my 38 gallon aquarium. I already had 2 false percs and a royal gramma who had all been getting along fine and everything. When I added the firefish he swam around a bit but is now staying mainly in the upper left hand side of the tank. I think the royal gramma is being territorial. The clowns could care less about him. What do you think I should do?

Royal Gramma should be added last in the tank once added they do get very territorial. Not to mention Firefish, are skiddish and peaceful. Chances are if you don't have a top the Firefish will jump very soon.

As to what to do.

I would remove the Firefish or the Royal Gramma. If you don't remove the Royal Gramma your chances of being able to add anymore fish without the Royal Gramma picking on them are quite slim. Unless they're quite bold..

Good luck! :)

the royal gramma only seems to get territorial when the firefish goes neer his hole. Otherwise he doesn't bother him. As i'm typing this my firefish just swam into the grammas hole.

The Royal Grammas I've had/have have been pretty docile. They will try to push other fish away from their holes, but not in an aggressive way, just opening the mouth in a threating way. The last one was my 3rd fish and I've added several fish since with no problem. Now, mine is in a 90, so maybe they'd be more aggressive in a smaller tank.

I imagine they'd be fine after a little time. My fish seem to welcome new additions, by chasing them a little until they learn their place. Usually just a day or two and not constantly. Just keep an eye to make sure it doesn't get out of hand.
