New addition GSMC

Well Im going to attempt to pair a captive Golden stripped maroon clown (Female I think) with my smaller (I believe male) that has been in the tank a few weeks.

I put her in a large clear container with an open top coverd by a mesh for h20 exchange and placed her near where the male has been hanging out.

I dont have an anemone at this time but plan on pickup up a RBA at some point (next few months)

The Male took quick notice to the new addition and was hanging out and shimming next to the container when she swam close. I believe that is a good sign. Cant tell how she responds to him, not sure if she is paying attention or not.

Any suggestions to make this transition work better that what I am already trying would be appreciated.

Thanks
Frank

Sounds like what you're doing is fine,I did the same thing-5 years ago.My clowns are laying eggs regularly,I do have a rbta. The larger fish is the female. However if she dies and you add another smaller clown he [the original male] will then grow larger and change sex, becoming the new female. This has happened to my fish.I have had my present female for app.12 years and 9 years ago was a male mating with another female.

The fish lay the eggs on a rock protected by the anenome and the fish are bad as when it comes to their rock and anenome. They always hatch at night and what happens to the babies is another whole different undertaking.

Phxkeller, they will host what they want so it is pretty much hit or miss. More than likely, they will host an BTA (best for a Maroon) instead of a coral but it really just depends on what the fish wants. Some reefers buy anemones for their clowns, but the clowns decide to host corals instead.

yep the smaller one is and he was the one in the tank already. So it looks good so far .. I'll let her out today and see how she acts to him

so far they are hanging out together without problems.. Looks like they were waiting for each other !! I hope this luck continues..

So here they are hanging out together... and now in their new RBTA from clownspawn.

She is already coming at me when I move things in the tank..

Now to complete the pairing of clowns I hope they will spawn if they are happy together!!

oh inspiring :D so that was that, you put him in a clear container for a bit, let him out and its been happily ever after?

did they argue at all?

Im going to be trying the opisite of you. i have a female in the reef and am adding a baby after it gets out of qt. I made a clear container covered with mesh as well in preporation

someone else told me to add the baby at night and skip the container so im kinda sduding up :)

how long did you keep it in the container before releasing it?

I added her in the container during the day and he immediately was checking her out and doing the submissive shake while she was in the container... she seemed to pay some attention but not much. I let her out two days after she was in and they both met (looked like they were kissing cheeks) then he started shaking again for her and she was happy with that.
Its been about 4-5 weeks I think and now I added the RBTA and she took to it right away. He waited half a day then started playing in it as well .. Now they wonââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t come out and get very protective if I get close for any reason..
Good luck !!!
