New Addition to the 215

Well, I went to Gateway Aquatics yesterday to hang out and get something new for the 215. I wanted to get my first Clam, who should be fine with the 400W MH and VHOs I have over the tank. I will try for a better picture in a few days.

The clam is about 3 inches long and has kind of burrowed into the substraight alittle.

Is he ok on the substraight, or should he be up on some rock work?

Nice clam!! I saw that one, but opted for the Crocea clam...very nice indeed! The Maxima should be fine where he is, but I usually keep mine in the rockwork...think I read that somewhere in the past.

It will tell you if it does not like the rockwork. It will jump off. Try placing it on a flat rock on the bottom. If the foot grabs onto the rock you can move it to another location after that.

JXMetal

They had a few alittle larger, but they were the blue and not as unique in colors. Also, dont ya kind of like to get a puppy instead of a dog so you can watch it grow?

I talked him into the Maxima vs the Crocea he wanted.

I beat Fade in the Jedi salesmen trick but DrBDC has us both beat.

Yes, he needs friends!

I am just very slow in stocking, which is a good thing.....

I do have a Fire Shrimp, Clenaer Shrimp, and Peppermint Shrimp that are about to go into the tank.

Plus the Yellow Mimic Tang will be out of QT after Christmas.

Why peppermint shrimp? They can be mean little buggers and most of them hide until your lights go out. I watched a peppermint shrimp tear appart a new RBTA once.

It is actually alittle false peppermine shrimp that came in a package deal from GWA. They are all in QT for a few weeks right now. If the little peppermint is still around in a few weeks, then off to the 215 he goes with the other 2.

The Peppermint Shrimp in my Nano is a true Peppermint Shrimp I got to kill a few aiptasia. He mowed them down in 2 days. Now I just feed him when I feed the Fire Shrimp in the Nano. They both come out and get alittle shrimp pellet ever few days. I guess since I actually feed him, he does not mess with anything. And I have no aiptasia in the Nano. Just seems strange that the Shrimp eat shrimp pellets..... Something is just wrong with that.

The "real" pep is in the Nano and takes care of any aipastia. He is a model citizen in there.

The "false" pep was just part of the package deal GWA had going. I wanted the Fire and Cleaner. The little pep will just be part of the whole system. I am not too worried about him messing with anything. He is barely 3/4 of an inch.

Well, I guess I miss read something the other day.

The Peppermint Shrimp that are for sale at GWA are "real" pepperments. So, I will have a "real" peppermint shrimp in my 215. Any Aiptasia better vacate now!

Because the other Peppermint Shrimp I got awhile back at GWA keeps my Nano complete free of those pesty aiptasia.

Yeah what the heck are you talking about Hobbes ?!

Peppermint shrimp = good.

We sell 100% Lysmata wurdemanni and nothing else.

Well, I never knew there were "false" and "true" peppermints before the day I got them. So, even if I misheard something. It was mentioned that day about "false" peppermints.

OK, back to the reason for the thread....

The new addition to the 215. The Clam was sinking alittle into the Substraight and creating aliitle pile of sand in front of his opening. Each time he would close, the water current would flip a few pieces of sand into the water column. I really wanted it up on the rocks alittle, so I got one of the shelf rocks out of the Fuge and made a place for it. It is now about 6 inches off the bottom of the tank. Seems to like it. Opens up huge all day.

OK, I moved the Shrimps from the little 10 Gal QT tank to the 215 yesterday and they all took off for different corners. That little peppermint shrimp can shot across a 6 foot tank in a heartbeat!

I walked down stairs today and I be darn if that Cleaner Shrimp was not already taking care of the Vlamyngi. He was completely holding onto the side of the fish and picking away. The Vlamyngi was just sitting there, shaking his fins. Almost looked like a dog when his leg shakes if you rub just in the right space.

Will have to keep camera ready incase I catch it again.

Pretty wild how they already knew to do that after 1 day.
