New addition

+1 how big is he? Beautiful fish, I like how the male's jaw coloration stands out more, I have a female, but she's only 3-4" the yellow isn't showing on her fins yet like yours... I actually have two triggers, niger and blue jaw, neither one bothers my clean up crew...

I had one in my last tank, never bothered anything, except for my fingers every now and then...

I could never figure out why he would literally bite the hand that fed him. Great fish otherwise.

Mine is about 7" he is a beast that eats nori, marine A and mysis. I have two cleaner shrimp in my tank. I was nervous when I put the shrimp in, but he chooses to get cleaned rather than eat an expensive snack.

I did create a pair, by purchasing a much smaller female. I tried a large female she contracted a disease and died. This may have been advanced by the male. With the smaller female there is no aggression.

Beautiful fish. I got one coming in tomorrow. Can't wait after seeing yours. What size is yours?

Sounds great minhvu. They are beautiful fish, love watching him swimming around the tank. Keep us posted and dont be afraid to post some pictures and ask some questions if needed. And if i where to guess. Maybe around 4-5 inches.

Huladad. Thank you. Yea the coloration is beautiful on my blue jaw, it just stands out so much. The females are beautiful to, but i like the males more because of the coloration its just such a nice addition. And if i where to guess the size it would be 4-5 inches.

SFeST, thanks and thats good to hear he was a good fish except for the bitting of hands haha. But i dont know why they do that, i have heard stories like that a couple of times before

Crsandoval, great to hear. Thats great that he likes the shrimp, i might try to do that later but i am not to sure. I will have to research some more on that when the time comes to me deciding on what i want to do. Thats great to hear about the younger female.

I have never heard of blue throat triggers going after usual cleaner crew invertebrates. The only ones that I can think of that he might mistake for food are the Sexy Shrimp, and thats because they are so small. You must have gotten a fantastic specimen as mine has never had that bright of blue or yellow and didn't eat for the first few days (they usually don't while getting used to the tank). Thats a really good sign for him. In my opinion, they are kind of like the manatees of triggers. They don't hurt a soul, show basically no signs of aggression, and get beat up fairly easily if you put an aggressive large fish in the tank with them (another trigger or puffer/lionfish....even a big tough damsel will easily push one around). Also, typically their mouth is very small, so don't try to feed them big chunks of food/meat, as they have a hard time getting it into their mouth. And finally, the best thing about the Blue Throat (both of mine have done this) is how loving and curious they get towards their owner. Once they get used to who feeds and cues of when its feeding time, they clue into it sooner than anyone else. Kind of like how some dogs learn the sound "food" or "walk" and go berserk. Mine currently hangs out on the side of the tank, with his eye up against the glass, to get the best view possible of people passing by, to see when I show up to feed. People don't call them "puppy dogs" for nothing.

Wow sounds like you had some great success with the bluejaw. Yea i do think that i got a good specim because before i bought him i did some research on what these fish where like. I read that they are very shy and have heard that many times before and that they dont eat right away. But mine is quite different to what i have read. He does hide when the lights are off but as soon as the lights go on he is out and about doing his thing. But the first stay he started eatting i think thats the fastest time period of how long it took a new fish to eat in my tank. One of my best buys i would say.

Thanks for the information on such a beautiful fish. I have been thinking of getting on of these for a while. Thanks for making the decision easier.

The blue thorat is doing great. I have been looking at old pictures and noticed that he lost his bright yellow around his fines. Any reasons why?

Think my Niger killed my Juvi BlueThroat. Hope to try again, maybe a larger pair, or Crosshatch pair.
