new additions :)

potters angels are endemic to Hawaii (and their chain aka johnston/midway atoll) :)

given ample room a potters and flame can coexist in the same tank (add the same time or introduce slowly)

Potters do great if they skip the wholesaler to wholesaler step. first its caught in hawaii, sold to a local wholesaler, then sold to a LA/mainland wholesaler, then to the pet store then to your tank. Direct from the diver or from a pet store who got it from a diver or atleast a hawaiian wholesaler, greatly increases it chances for survival. They usually get roughed up along the way. :(

I have always love Potters Angels. Have you guys seen the super rare Blue Potters? That is probably the only fish I would pay a lot of money for.

Oh man...wet our appetite for something exotic then no pic ;)

I couldn't find one either :(. Now I am ultra curious.

here's a blue black potters (they were highlighted in last months' reefkeeping online mag).

Both are beautiful fish, but I still prefer the standard-colored Potters Angel. That is a nice looking fish, and yes, very photogenic!

How is that Clam in your pics. Looks like it is being picked on. One of the things potters are known for.

Doubt it is being picked on, it has looked like that for over a year, ever since we got it. Again, it is a deresa, and never really had much mantle extension. It closes up at night and opens up like you see it during the daytime, no changes (outside of when I fish swims quickky past it and throws a shadow. It may be unhappy with the light or flow there, I don't know, but in a month or so it will be in a totally different tank with better lighting, flow, etc, so I am not going to worry about it.

What a coincidence. I didn't know they just had an article on it. If there ever was a fish I would pay a high price tag for that would be it (not that I have that kind of money hiding under my matress). Anybody else have a dream fish? The one that would make you empty your savings for?

I don't.. Not for a fish :D .. I like car though.. I would empty my saving for my dream car if my wife lets me. :D

i'm always drooling over sang's interruptus pair-- i think that those would be the fish i'd spend money on if i could. for a more attainable price/species, i'd buy a Ctenochaetus trunctatus (spotted yellow eye tang)-- i picked one up locally 6 months or so ago but it died after 3 months. http://www.marinecenter.com/fish/tangs/spottedyelloweyetang/

very nice looking fish Danny :) Where did you happen upon one locally ? and why do you think that it perished ? poor collection procedures ? or something else ?

Best of luck with your next attempt :)

i picked it up at exotic aquarium here in sacramento (when they were still at their old location, though). it was a cheap buy (i think $20 or so) but it really caught my eye (honestly, i just thought that it was a really nice looking kole tang-- i'm not much of a fish person, really.). as for why it perished-- i've got no clue. it was very small when i got it-- maybe 2 inches or so and it was quite emaciated. i got him to grow a half inch or so and fatten up a bit but found him stuck to my 6100 one morning.

my bet for his death is because of my sparse feedings (i'd only replace his nori sheet when it was completely gone). also, i'd only supplement his diet with two different types of nori. next time around, i'll make sure to have many different types and to feed more often. :)
