new adventure into largeland

Depends on your philosophy of skimming, if you believe in heavy skimming or light skimming...most people around here have euroreefs for skimmers, myreef, deltech, lifereef, all just to name a few...

Great looking stand! Nice work.

I agree with the comment above -- you have a lot of good options these days. IMHO, MyReefCreations makes a great downdraft skimmer. The skimmer they built for me is very flexible -- I can shut down one injector manifold (I have four beckets total) for cleaning/maintenance and keep running the other. Look on the "vendor feedback" forums and you'll get lots of info on MRC and the other vendors too...

Good luck!

Thanks Sean and New Mariner. I believe in a heavy skimmer. I have a 55 gal setup now w/ a euro and it does a great job. I will check out the vendor feedback forum for more info. And I have read alot of positive remarks about MRC skimmers from people using them. thanks again.

Finally got the tank on the stand!!

Starting on the side cabinet and the canopy.

Looking good, Quick question wht did you seal the stand with? One thing I have noticed no matter how hard you try you still get water outside the tank and sump LOL.

Thanks mcdonaldtj.

I just painted the inside of stand with primer first, then just used a latex based paint.
The outside of the stand is stain and sealer together in one step by Minwax. Great stuff.

Well I am waiting for some of the things I ordered on line to come. I purchased a Sequence dart pump for my return pump. And I ordered drill bits from ebay and a skimmer from MRC.
Also waiting on some flex pvc pipe to come in. I just finished putting in the durso pipes for my overflows. When everything is here, I will start the plumbing work and drill the sump and refugium tanks.

Thanks for asking.

Just finished installing my Durso standpipes in the overflows. I received them quickly after ordering them. Really great product.

Here is a pic of the top of the end cap of new standpipe. I drilled a small hole in the top and inserted a air valve to be able to control the amount of air.

One thing about the air valve is the hole is too small and you will get the flush going on. It will also put out a highpitch whisle sound. I actually picked up a 1/4 inch vavle that you use for RO units (threaded on one end) and it works great.

Thanks for the info Tim. I haven't finished setting everything up just yet. The standpipes came with extra end caps, so I could always change them over to what you did.

Thanks

Beautiful work, I love the colors of your stand. Will keep an eye on this thread to see the end result.
Congrats and great work.

A cotton ball or tissue should silence this as well.
