These two are best of friends and enjoy viewing the fish tanks together, (when there not chasing each other through the small house with lot's of fragile fish tanks everywhere!)

Instead of going with Cheatomorphia with this setup, I went a different route. I call this stuff "Kittymorphia". It's not very good at nutrient export but will remove extra fish from the sump.

Come on Captn. You can't tell me a kitty in the sump isn't an exciting new idea! How many people do you know that use this technique?
I've tried and tried to stop this behavior in the kitty kat but he's stubborn. Since he was raised from a little bitty persian kitty, my dog has him convinced that I prefer him to cause trouble. This sump is one of his prefered sleeping spots. Not 4 feet from this sump is a nice expensive, leopard print bed I purchased just for him. Not so much as a cat hair has been shed anywhere remotely close to it. (and it's filled with catnip too).

That sump looks like too much work. You’d have to wring out the cat every day to remove the detritus that would collect in the fur. Then you’d have to deal with a BIG ammonia problem at least two or three times per day. I don’t think the bacteria can keep up with that kind of ammonia release. I think that the Kinko’s copy cat idea might work somewhat better, than the cat in the refugium idea.
