new aquapod

Greetings. I recently purchased aquapod 12 with the 54watt lighting. Set up timers, water, salt, and 16 pounds of live rock is arriving from Dr. Fosters Friday. My water salinity is at 1.023, is this ok to cycle the tank with or should it be higher? Do i need to do a freshwater dip when i get the live rock home, treat it with Iodine, or just brush it with a clean toothbrush? Do i rinse with freshwater or saltwater? I have experience with freshwater set ups, but am a little nervous about the Reef tank i want to do. I plan on doing Zoa's, frogspawn, mushrooms, and possibly one common clown once the tank has cycled. What exactly is a "frag"? Or what is "fragging?" I purchased afission protein skimmer, which i know now is not recommended on this forum, but i purchased it before i read about it. I also bought a 900 jet to either replace or add to the tank for better circulation. Should i just add this to the main tank, or replace it with the stock one? Would a in tank whisper filter be helpful? Sorry for so many questions. Bunker

Hey - I'm in your neck of the woods, and I also have an AP12.

Your salinity is fine, most people shoot for 1.023-1.025, so you're in good shape.

You shouldn't have to dip the rock. I'd put the rock right in the tank as is. Anything dead on the rock will trigger your cycle, and that's where you want to be at this point.

I'd take the MJ900 and replace the stock pump - you'll get better circulation and lower water temps as the MJ produces less heat than the stock pump.

A frag is a small "piece" of a coral... fragging is a general term used to refer to a variety of methods used to propogate a coral so it can be sold, shared, traded, etc.

Good luck.
