New Aquarium

I was thinking of upgrading to a 180 G or larger reef. My question is does any one have any feed back on www.customaquariums.com aquariums and stands? Are the tanks and stands of good quality? How is their customer service?

I have tried to contact them several times (e-mail and voice messages) within the last 2 weeks, and have had no response, this worries me about any future support.

Thank You,

I received my tank from them last month. The quality is good, the silicone was a little sloppy along the bottom, but not a big deal since it will be covered by sand. It's built quite beefy with the aluminum frame on top and bottom.

Order date: July 31
Received on: November 3

So 95 days to receive it from the order date. They are showing faster turn around time now and recently made a Facebook post stating the faster turn around is due to hiring more employees.

They are usually fairly responsive to emails, but not always. Sometimes I have to call them a couple times before I get an answer. They are only there during business hours which is somewhere around 8am-4pm CST, I'm not 100% sure.

I also ordered their stand and canopy since the quotes I received elsewhere were a lot higher. The quality is also nice on them, but I am a little skeptical on the strength of the stand in comparison to going with steel. The canopy arrived damaged. The front was cracked/split in 3 places from it shifting during shipping. I called them first thing the next day and they started on a replacement. I'm still waiting to hear the replacement is being shipped, it's been 5 weeks now. They told me it would be shipped the week of Thanksgiving or the week after, last week. Getting a little miffed since I am ready to get my lights and some other things mounted in the canopy.

The tank had a small nick midway along the front pane. I did not notice it upon first opening the crate since it is so small. Two weeks later when we moved it into the living room on the stand I noticed it. I called them and they sent out an epoxy to fill in the nick so it wouldn't end up spiderwebbing or worse. The epoxy they sent required a gun to use properly, which they did not send. I had to pay ~$30 at Grainger to order a gun. I probably could've just pushed the 2-part epoxy out by hand, but felt more comfortable having the gun.

The first shipping company they used was going to try delivering the tank with a semi that did not have a lift. That company told me they couldn't deliver to residential unless we had a fork truck waiting. Why they would've used this company to begin with to get to my place knowing their free shipping says curbside, I have no idea... So they had a second shipping company go pick the crate up from the first shipping company. The second company brought it to my place at noon, when I told them I wouldn't be available until 4pm or later. So it was just the driver and I at the house. Though he had a lift gate we couldn't get it on the lift gate with just the two of us and a pallet jack. They agreed to come back in the evening when I could have enough people to manhandle it out.

Their price and free shipping were the selling points when I was trying to decide on who to order from. I'd probably order from them again, but I would look at other options again when making the decision.

Thank you for the great feed-back. At this time I still have not heard from them, a little disappointing. However, I did receive a quote from Reef Savvy for a 175 G tank, wow what a price tag they want for it, and they are only covered under warranty for 2 years, were as custom aquariums will warranty a tank over 75 G for a life-time, and they are 2.5x lower in cost for the tank.

Also, what size tank did you order from custom aquariums

300 gallons, 96x24x30. They added some custom holes in the back of the stand and canopy for my needs. They also added a 5th door on one side of the stand so I could slide my sump in. I did not go with their sump system or their overflow and returns.

A follow up on trying to contact them. I sent an email last week and not heard back. I also tried calling 4-5 times today and left a voicemail. Maybe some of their staff is already out for the holidays?

Foxvalleypcgeek has a '500 Gallon Build' thread with a tank from them. Cuzza also bought a tank from them. I don't think either of them got the stand or canopy.
