Hi! I want to be a reef hobbyist but Because of the price of how much it will cost to run a full reef tank (and i dont earn that much atm) I thought it may be cheaper and a better idea if i start with a small tank and own a mantis shrimp, I have always been interested in mantis shrimp when I was 10 years old and I read about them in a monthly BUGZ book, back then they didnt know much other than they could smash glass.
I think it would be good to start small and get the hang of being a reef hobbyist with only one lifeform for now.
I dont know what types of common mantis shrimp they have here in aus, but I hope to get a nice colourful one.
I am wondering how much power would I expect to be using doing this, and what filters and lighting should I look at having a 30-50l nano mantis reef on my desk. I dont want there to be too much overcrowding of filters or sumps, as this tank will be near computer and electrical appliances.
I cannot find an acrylic manufacturer here which makes acrylic tanks and have only been able to find float glass tanks. Would these be reasonable to hold a mantis shrimp? or is it too much a risk..
I hope you guys can help ^_^
