Hey guys...
Been off-line for a while and after my move from windsor things were a bit hectic till i have settled in the new place here in edmonton.

Been playing with the idea of starting up a new reef tank and this is what i have in mind:
- 150 or 180 Gal (48x24x28 or 48x24x36 as you noticed i like deep tanks )
- Protostar 2x 250W or 400W MH with 2 HOT5 ( depending with what tank im gonna go with )
- Aqua Euro Recirculating 265 Skimmer
- Sequence - Dart pump

Thats just for now...
As far as stocking will be moderate and mostly will be softies and maybe a clam or two. As far as fish go i like tangs a lot and most likely will be medium size.

Any input guys ??

Ohhh ...
almost forgot..
the sump will be in the region of 60-90 gallons with refuge and plenty of room for some macro Smile (had good luck with it on the last setup)

marineland has new 3 foot wide reef tanks coming out, with over flow boxes and everything. they are not tall as much as they are wide, but they come in starfire glass which is worth every penny in a reef tank. they come with a whole bunch of marineland skimmers and pumps and prebuilt sumps, which if possible i wouldn't get because they probably cost a fortune for what they are. but they have lots of nice matching stands. and as for protein skimmers i prefer euro-reef brand skimmers they work well and are easy to maintain. all that really matters is you have the biggest fuge possible. and you might want to look into getting a good aquarium controller if you haven't already. have fun with whatever you decide on.

3 visible panes will be starfire glass, but the bottom and rear panes will be smoked glass...
theres a manufacturer in town that will build a tank to my specs along with a euro framing and theres a 20 year warranty on them as well.

as far as the stand...
i will build my own stand and canopy where im gonna mount the lights into.
as far as the sump/refuge goes...
the water that will drain from the tank will be t-ed into the inlet of the skimmer abd the by the means of a gate valve will control the amount of flow through the skimmer. the excess will dump into a sock. the water after this stage will proceed through a couple of baffles that will stop micro-bubbles from going into the fuge where there will be 6-8" DSB and some live rock rubble in there after which it hits the carbon compartment and the finally the pump inlet.

been thinking about the idea to fill the last baffle with live rock rubble before it hits the refuge.
also total volume i will attempt to try and achieve as close as i can to half the volume of the main tank.

Once the i cycle the tank and sump (about month or so) ,a quick water change and then do a test a couple of weeks latter and introduce a pair of clowns and some of clean-up drew...
if everything goes ok in the next 72 hrs after the intruduction and levels look good...
then i will shut down the tank for a quick minute and add 3 4oz bottles of copapods to my refuge once the bottles have been floated for a good 30-45 mins to equalize temps after which i will start up the tank again.
