New Birdsnest addition...Question

So I am finding myself really into birdsnest, and have about 5 different kinds at the moment, all doing very well. All the birdsnest I have currently came from local fellow hobbiests, and I have been trying to find different kinds I don't have and came across this on Live Aquarias Divers Den

http://www.liveaquaria.com/diversden/ItemDisplay.cfm?c=2733+2&ddid=114006&cm_sp=rss

I went ahead and got it as I have never seen anything like it locally, but my question is, I have never had Birdsnest shipped before, or purchased birdsnest online, is there anything I should do? Should I aclimate it just like I would any other birdsnest I have purchased locally? I am assuming this is somewhat a freshly imported wild mini colony, is there anything I should do?

My biggest fear is with birdsnest being so fragile, that when it gets to me it will be in a bunch of little peices, I really hope that is not the case and that it makes it in one peice. To me its a really cool and different birdsnest, and I am excited to add it to my tank, but this being the first time I have purchased Birdsnest online, I am kinda freaked out.

Anyone have any advice? Anyone see this type of Birdsnest before? is it common? uncommon? They call it a Seriatopora hystrix, but it has rounded tips and not pointy tips, so its it really a Seriatopora hystrix?

I trust Liveaquaria and they are the only place I don't dip/QT from, but I do inspect and I know what to look for. That being said the smart thing would be to QT everything. Personally with a birdsnest or most sps I take it out of the bag and put it in the bottom of the tank in high flow, move it up in a few days. But however you have been acclimating local purchases will be fine. LA does a very good job shipping and i imagine it will be as healthy as anything you have purchased locally.

I have not seen many pink with green tip birdsnest so I imagine you'll be happy with your purchase.

THANK YOU!

So am I correct in my assumption that this is probably a wild caught mini colony? I am so unfamilar with purchasing from Live Aquaria, as they seem to have three sections for SPS....the SPS...The Aquacultured and Maricultured....This one was in the SPS section.

I have never seen a Pink with Green Tip Birdsnest before, thats why I jumped at the chance to get it...I am excitied to see what it looks like in person.

Thanks for your reply...

the SPS section is wild collected, the aquacultured are grown in tanks, and maricultured tend to be grown in lagoons.

Are Wild Collected Corals like this Birdsnest more sensitive? or harder to keep or aclimate? Or do you think it will be just like any of the other captive propagated birdsnests I have gotten? Are they more prone to RTN or poor survival rates? I really hope it comes in one piece and does well. What type of pests normally are present that I should keep an eye out for? Flatworms?

But however you have been acclimating local purchases will be fine.

Even for Wild Caught corals? you would do the same? just treat them as I would any other captive propagated birdsnest?

I've never bought a wild birdsnest but I've bought stylo's and acro's and they have a poorer survival rate, just not as poor as made out to be.

Live Aquaria does an excellent job of acclimating and inspecting, so I wouldn't worry too much about pests.

Update, Arrived with only one little 1" branch broken, which is cool as I had thought about fragging one anyway as a backup just incase this thing starts into RTN. I think its a pretty cool peice, unique....I look forward to when it is in full polyp extension, and showing all its glory....

This is shortly after aclimation and placement in the tank...REALLY ****ed off..

A few hours later, showing some good sign of polyps, looking better, I am looking forward to seeing it in a few days or weeks after its adjusted to the water parameters and lighting...Here's hoping for the best!
