I recently bought a new Ceebee anemone 3 days ago and things are looking grim. Appears bleached, has yellowish tinted tentacles, shows now effort to locate a place to anchor. And in the mornings its usually all balled up. please help.

Sorry wanted to add them as it is easier than jumping back and forth.

What are the tank parameters and age? temp/nitrate/ph/nitrite/phospate/bioload(fish/critters)/lights

What was it doing when you got it?

I have a 40 gallon tank which is a month old with a large filter, Biowheel protein skimmer and a 500gpm water pump for current, temp is 78, Nitrate 0, nitrite 0, alkalinity 270, ph 8.2. Two lights don't remember watt but its a coral sun, and reef sun. I have 1 blenny, 3 hermits, a cleaner shrimp and a damsel. Being new to the hobby was miss educated at a local pet store and the owner told me it was relocating and the color was normal for the type. But later researched and found it is supposed to be tan.

oh no

Yeah.... for good parameters and overall fairness to the anemone it really needs a cycled mature tank. Most think they can beat the curve and do all the "in a bottle" type items and make their tank ready for fish in minutes.

While it does work... Once it subsides the cycling of the rock and any leaching and bacteria building will overtake and cause an issue, while not in fish, an anemone is more sensitive to these type changes and drifting currents carrying elements in the water column.

I think you mean sebae anemone, or rather Heteractis crispa.

Biowheels are usually freshwater HOB (hang on back) filters, not protein skimmers. Your light is definitely not adequate for it. I've seen those cheap "Coral Sun" and "Reef Sun" bulbs at Petsmart; they definitely aren't meant for saltwater unless you have a fish only tank. A 4 bulb T5 system with ATI bulbs would be a good minimal fixture for that anemone.

I would take it back to the store before it dies in your tank. Do not buy any other anemones or corals until you upgrade to a proper lighting fixture. Right now you don't have enough light to support them. It is unfortunate that the store sold you something that your tank was not suited for. Do you have a smart phone? A quick Google search of prospective purchases may help a lot in the future. Even I sometimes still do it and I've kept all sorts of fish and inverts. :)

Your tank is too young for a Anemone IMO. See if you can return it to the LFS who sold it to you.

very slim chance it will make it. take it back or if you know some reefer in your area that willing to house it for you until your tank is ready...say 6+ months. good luck
