New clam owner

sacremon

I just got my first clam, a 3" squamosa. Doing some reading beforehand, I buried a disc-shaped piece of rock under the sand and put the clam on top of that. It is in an area with good light (I have a 3x150W MH Sunpod) and I can see that there is a continuous flow where the clam sits, but not strong enough that it is moving the mantle or such. I use Kalkwasser in the ATO (2 tablespoons of Mrs. Wages in 4 gallons of water).

Questions:

Should I orient the clam so that the openings are in line with the flow, or will the clam move itself to what it finds most comfortable/getting the flow it needs?

I know that I need to keep a close eye on calcium, and I presume magnesium, but are there any other parameters I particularly need to watch in regards to the health of the clam?
