new clam pic

i never knew clams needed nitrates and i was about to maybe get a 4 or 5" Ultra Max beauty tomorrow that just came in. since my nitrates are less than 1 should i not get it? what nitrate reading is recommended to keep clams? what happens if u don't have that reading?

I read somewhere that clam farms are adding ammonium (sp?) nitrate in with the clams and it increases growth rates.
