Thanks jwess I got it from Pet's Playhouse in Cedar Rapids.
Phishcrazee they didn't say any thing about it being a ultra crocea. It said crocea on the tank but that was it. I have a 150w MH on my nano that should be bright enough shouldn't it?
Somebody on another forum said that it looked like it was bleaching out what do you guys think? I will feel like such a jack a$$ if I bought a clam that is bleaching out. If it is bleaching is there any thing I can do for it?
It doesn't look bleached too me, it is gapping a little though. I would try to keep it higher up in your tank for better lighting. Also, i think they like to have their foot mounted in a rock rather than sand. At least mine did.....
Thanks for the compliments guys. I saw the clam and just had to have it. I was looking at some SPS but they wanted like 80 to 90 bucks for some.
As far as needing a bigger tank I'm already thinking about setting up my 75g. But I'm going to have to save up alot of $$$$$ before I can start that project.
Its a nice crocea ......Ultra is just a name the stores add on to get a better price for and to identify the brighter/nicer patterned clams.
It is gaping a bit but that is common when acclimating them to new water params and lighting.
I would watch the far end of the clam as it looks like he has pulled away from the shell a bit. Might be fine but just keep an eye so that it does not get worse.
Very nice coloration, it looks like it was nipped or damaged on the right. It is an older wound though as the shell is aged and not bright white where the tissue is missing. He looks healthy for the damage and will hopefully heal up completely for you.
Check out this recent thread (towards the end) in the tridacnid forum.......... newer research is showing that smaller clams do not need all the phytoplankton feedings that we once believed they did.
Well I moved him up on to a rock last night. He's abut halfway up in my tank now. I got home to day from work and it looked like he was doing better. He wasn't gapping and he looked pretty good. I think will pull through.
I read that thread about feeding them. I think I'm going to hold off on feeding him anything. It sounds like they get most of their food from light and the scraps of food that you feed your fish.
