I just got a new clam after about 5 months for the death of my crocea. I was visiting Tampa I fell in love with. In about fifteen minutes of acclimation the clam opened up and seems pretty happy.

I did have a few questions about this clam.
First of all what kind is it? I was thinking Spuamosa but not sure.
And second Where is a good postion in the tank for it?
Thanks everyone.

Looks like a maxima to me, but I could be wrong. If it is a maxima, I would put it high/middle in the rockwork provided you have MH's. If not, the higher in the tank you can get the clam, the better.

Thanks Orchidsn. I do have Halides. Its the best/highest/safest place I can get him. The guy at the store said it was a Crocea but I haven't seen corea's like this before. It really doesnt matter what Kind of clam it is to me. I'm just happy to finally have a good looking clam.

that looks like a maxima i have 2 squamosa might be the light. You got to know what kind it is maxima is a more light demaning clam

Thanks everybody. I am currently feeding it phytoplankon and a little roti rich on the side. Is there a better choice for food?

Clams only need strong lighting, ammonia, and nitrate. Since you have fish and coral you have the latter two. If you try to spot feed the clam you risk clogging its gills and doing damage. The flame angel will probably turn on the clam soon. There are a few very rare cases that they don't though.

Thanks very much skinz. The flame angel has swam around the clam eyeballing it but as he does with all new additions he leaves it alone. Now I have a new question. The clam is in a new spot and he has no light! But now it glued itself to the rock. Should I leave it alone or try and get it into some light? I'm thinking it go itself in this spot and it can get itself out. Am I right?

Thanks everybody!!!!

If it isn't getting light you will need to move it. Carefully cut the byssal threads as far away from the clam as possible. If you pull the clam from the rock you will most likely kill it. I probably won't move itself.

It gets stranger.

It gets stranger.

I woke up this morning to find the clam in a new spot of the rock. Now it gets full light. All the threads are in the old spot... And he has one very shiny thread. I will have some pics up tonight.
