new clowns

I have a new pair of percula clowns... They are small and acclimating in my refugium right now, I have a 120 gal sps style tank with lots of water flow.. is it unsafe to put these little 1 1/4 inch fish in such a turbid environment.

How much flow do you have?

there is a tunze wave box, turbelle 6025 and a korallia 4.. there is a large cave in the middle with slower flow.. im hoping they find their way there

i think that it would be dangerous. those are very small fish.

Time to setup a new tank until they grow a little more. Defiantly not safe for such little clowns in a turbulent environment.


Where'd you get 'em from, by the way?

well i didnt really have a choice... turned off some of the water flow and put the little guys in there.. also they are 1 3/4 inches a little larger than I first though... they seem to like the big tank and the water flow.

A 1 3/4" clown is just fine in a high flow tank. 1 1/4 I'd think twice..

any suggestions on getting them a host.. right now they are hosting a patch of algae in the back of the tank... silly clowns

Get a hammer coral.In a tank like that it may take awile befor they find it.

If you put them in that 120g SPS don't worry about them hosting anything. I doubt they will even make it.


Some fish love lots of flow (Anthia/Tangs) others do not.

They are Clowns not Seahorses Lol. They'll be fine. Since when don't Clowns like flow?

If he has a lot of flow, he will have to do a ton of hand feeding and turning off the pumps every day or so, so they can eat.

This isn't a tang or anthias we're talking about.

At 80 times tank turnover my percs do just fine.They have no problems getting around or eating with the flow. If they could not i would worry about the species not making it in the ocean. We dont hold a candle to what they see in the wild.

Lots of people (myself included) have clowns in tanks with high flow. They are quite able to catch food as its moving. No need to hand feed.

seem to be doing fine, both are readily eating.. there are very few fish in the tank so they dont have any competition... They still dont seem interested in any of the corals but well see, and at night they kinda spaz out in corner of the tank... Ive bred maroons before but these guys are a little weird...
