These are some corals I have acclimating to the light in the tank bottom. All the pics were taken w/o any flash. All the corals came from Reef live exept for the last one

This first one is as highlighter yellow as it comes, never seen something so 'radioactive"

acclimating Question

acclimating Question

This is something I wasnt planing on doing....should I setup a area in the tank to do my coral acclimating .?

Remeber Im taking my time and not scared to spend money........All the equpment was suggestion here on Reef Centrel.....I have alist of parts with names......So if sometyhing starts going wrong I will be calling YOU........lol Im only kidden

I think Rogger can answer this the best.....Im going to ber moving my tank up stairs the weekend,,,,where I can start routeing the
light wires................what do you thnk should I setup a area for acclimating

Brian I don't have an acclimating area, instead I use the front part of my sand bed to place a narrow and long piece of eggcrate were I can place the frags and new corals, I am not into this area at all cause I am a neat freak when it comes to how the tank looks but, I understand there is a need to acclimate this corals from the intense lighting when they first arrive until you find a permanent home on your rock formation, I also have learned to take my time before glueing a coral permanently on the rock and investigate how this coral groth pattern is, what color is it going to turn, and overall try to visualize the future and start shaping your reef in a way that you don't have to be changing it as often, For these reasons I use that area in front.

Acropora species, god only knows for sure which one it is, I really hope it keeps the color as it is spectacular now, so I look at it every day with my mouth open. :D

Thanks Rogger so basically ....I just need to keep the corals on the sand bed before placing them on the rock structure.
Thanks
Brian

Brian, I try to keep them elevated from the sand on an eggcrate, if you keep them on the sand and they tilt you may have some tissue loss if you dont straight them up soon.
I am going to try something that Chris Little uses in his tank, is this bathroom shower shelves that get stuck with suction cups to the glass, I am going to try the corner units so they are not as obstrusive, I'll let you know how that works

I installed it today, it works really good, I will post pics tomorrow as I am in the middle of setting up the new calcium reator as well, I need more hours on the day to work in my tank, does it happen to you that you start a small project in your tank and the next thing you know it is 2AM!!!

They got 3 different models in the bathroom section at WalMart, I use the soap holders for small zoa frags, works good for a while until the suction cups give out.....but at $ 2.99 a piece you can replace them ever so often.
