New corals

Picked up 2 new lps corals today from Lfs. A purple and green hammer and a red blastomussa coral I believe. They had really good selection today, was torn between the blastomussa and a green torch or a long tentacle duncan. All were £20 and looked good. If only money were no object.

Nice and priced reasonably or at least in Canadian terms.
Blasto is a great coral, puffs right up in a month or so...

Nice pieces, and thats a good price. Here in Canada the prices for frags are pretty nuts.

Nice man, but remember LPS are stony and will use alk and ca. Did you get your alk up to at least 8dkh and stable yet?

Did a test using salifert test kit instead of the strip that I was using. It's up to 8.5 following a water change. Am putting it down to not using accurate test kit. Api test strip won't be used again. Going to check it once a week and monitor consumption. Now I have accurate measurement I'm more confident.

Saw Lobophyllia in the shop, this is definitely not one of them. Definitely a blastomussa.

I have never seen a blasto with a long stalk like that. Every blasto I have seen look more like larger zoas. I have a couple and none have long stalks like that one.

Lobos on the other hand have a long stalk like whats posted.

just google images of blasto's and lobo's you'll see what I mean.

Not saying I'm not wrong, just does not look like any blasto I have seen.

Both are in the same family, so could be either.

With the clearer picture, and the polyp actually open, I will agree thats a blasto. I have just never seen one on a long stalk as that. Branching hammers always have long hard stalks.

Update pics after 5 days in tank. Both opened nicely and seem to be doing well. Hammer may have new branch or two just starting to sprout too.

Fuzzy Chiton. Called so by the algae they grow on their hard skeletons.

Great invert algae eaters, but very slow. They eat everything on the rock down to white rock again. Not acrylic tank friendly, they can actually bite into the acrylic. They have the hardest organic substance known to man for teeth. I believe it's harder then diamonds, but don't quote me on that.

Funny thing, I can always tell where they are by following the white trail on the rocks.
