Yeah that would be fine. By no means is it necessary, but it will increase their "happiness", which in turn increases the time and frequency of being open.
As an update... I am still working on getting this dendro to open up in the tank. I have been feeding it 3 days a week with the above method, and have only seen it open voluntarily once. I check on it at 3 am most of the time, and it is never open. Any other methods?
Unfortunately it just takes time with some species like this, all you can do is keep trying and be patient and persistant.
Unless a colony is severly damaged, I do the "tupperware" method for a week straight feeding very heavily everyday. Then the colony has always opened for me on it's own in the display when I add frozen foods like P.E. Mysis. I did have one colony of Tubastrea that I did the "tupperware" method for two weeks, and damaged colonies for months before leaving them own their won so to speak.
