new DIY project....

Slave to the reef!
I am tired of not being able to sleep at night because of my tanks wiring. I counted everything i have plugged in for the 75 galon and there are 23 things plugged into one outlet. And the worst part about it its not even a GFCI outlet. Luckily i have a sub breaker box downstairs right under my tank with some open spots so heres the plan. I am going to build a wood box and wire up 20 outlets in the back and 20 switches on the front. Then i will be installing not one but 2 GFCI outlets both on seperate breakers. That way i can have the saftey of the GFCI and the conveinece of being able to turn everything off and on with a flip of a switch.

Ive looked into those DJ lighting powerstrips but being i need 3 of them its just not an option, plus if i make a custom one i can space the outlets far enough, so apart i can have my x10's and wall warts plugged in and not have them hogging 2-3 spots.

Sounds like fun dont it?

Yeah I'll be following along on this one for when I move and re-set up my tank I'd like to do the same thing. let us know how it goes for you.

same thing i did and worked out well. good luck.

I suggest that you map everything out and calculate loads and such so you can assure that its all as efficient as possible.

I believe its a great idea....you WILL sleep better!

Instead of that im just gonna go overkill on everything. I wired my garage and used waaaaaay to big of wire, it was a pia but i definetly have a good setup.

Thats exactly what im building, funny how i was reading that thread and didnt even realize that was yours. Im just real tiured of having power strips laying all over the place.

Been debating on doing something similar on mine. The cheap powerstrips I have prob. aren't the safest thing in the world! Post some pics when you're done.

I'm working on snagging some scraps from work to make something similar for my new 40, we throw out small peices of plywood like that all the time.

Im not buying another sheet just for this little thing.

your starting to get VERY needy.......lol it's like being in a bad relationship.....I'll see what we have at work on monday

My GFCI outlets just paid off!

Last night my trigger must have had too much to drink and decided to jump into the overflo. I had to drain the overflo to get him out. Not fun. So while I was in there I scraped and cleaned both of them out, put it all back together and everything was fine. Until about an hour ago. I was sitting here watching TV when all of the sudden.....sizzle....snap...and then everything shut off. I guess when I put the duros's back in I must have loosen the bulkhead that it goes into. It dripped enough to get onto an outlet and there it went. I'm glad I was here to turn everything back on.
