Purchased an eibli angel 3 days ago and is not taking anything offered. In the meantime he looks healthy and is picking at the rock all over the tank.He looks at the food that is introduced but will not take. Is this all a matter of time? Thanks

Mine took a few days to take to food. What have you offered? Mine seemed to prefer smaller foods like cyclopeze. I had some luck starting it on gut loaded BBS than moved it to prepared foods.

Is the fish active and picking at the rockwork?

Yes very active all over the tank. 130 gallons full of rock. Ive been offering veggie flake, omega one marine pellets, frozen mysis, frozen angel formula, frozen spirulina.................Thanks

Have you been using garlic that may help. I know my angel would not eat anything at first even w/ garlic then I started using artic pods and he ate it immediately. Slowly I weened him off of the artic pods and got him eating everything.

garlic in the omega thanks
There is not enough garlic in that stuff to act as an attractant. You need something like Kent's garlic extreme or fresh garlic from the store will work too. My metalic foxface did not want to eat frozen food and was looking pretty thin. I put some garlic extreme in and he ate instantly. He is now right there with all the others when they see the feeding cup.

Although not nutritious (sp?), live brine almost always trigger a feeding response. You can usually get them at many LFS. Once you get this feeding response, many fish then except prepared foods. Something to consider.

wow I guess that is the way to go....thanks Just never ran into this before. Angels in the past always ate with no garlic at all.

Try offering some foods on a clip, nori or krill. If hes picking around at the rock a lot he's likely to take something off a clip.

fresh garlic from store? Please explain how to introduce that? thanks
Peel the skin then chop it up into very fine pieces or use a cusinart type chopper to get it small. With the chopper you can even extract some juice and put it straight into the tank. I will worn you that if you put too much in your water will smell like garlic lol. That takes a few days of continuous use though to happen.

This plus some garlic is probably a very good solution. Could even try this first then the garlic if still a no go.

OK try it along with the garlic then

Could putting the garlic in with the nori sealed up benefit the nori in that way? Kind of like exposure if you know what I mean?

You could certainly try it. I would suggest to also put some in the tank. The likely hood is that the nori will mask/trap some of the garlic if using raw so putting more in the tank would hopefully stimulate the feeding response and then the eibli would hopefully find the nori and garlic together. Now if you were to use garlic extreme or garlic juice you could soak the nori in that first then put it in the tank. I would think that soaking the nori would be far better then wrapping it around some garlic.
