New England

i've been thinking about starting a local species tank. could be fun. i live in brigantine, nj so it would be pretty easy to get some live stock.

This past weekend I caught the first tropical (spotfin butterfly) of the season on the south shore of LI. About a month early. Going to be interesting tropical season.

Don't live on LI any more..
Best place to collect...
In between Hampton Bay & Southampton where 27a meets the water.

Plenty of butterfly's, Big eye's, seahorses and Oyster toad fish to be had..

Use Slurp gun, net or beach sane (very good results).

how did you catch it? on a dive?

Yup, was diving. Wasn't expecting to find any tropicals yet, so didn't have my nets. Did have a large ziplock bag in my BC pocket :D

Several years ago the Southampton town trustees in their "infinite wisdom" let the clammers power dredge in the sea grass bed there :uzi: Devastated that wonderful sea grass bed, and it still hasn't recovered :(

My 13 yr old niece setup a tank of just fish, crabs and snails from the LI sound in CT. It has worked out very well for her, and has been a great learning experience for her.
