New fish issues....

Well, yesterday I stopped in at the LFS in Cape Girardeau and shelled out $20 for a nice looking diamond goby. Put him in after acclimation and didnt see him all night. Saw him this morning hiding in the rocks and thought maybe in a few days he would get used to his surroundings and come out. Got home from class this evening to find him dried up on the ground next to the tank. Now I have to go find another fish! :(

my diamond goby did it for like two times in a first day. The first time, I was there, but at the second time. My tank is quite well covered and still able to find to jump. I will not buy it again.

I never saw anyone chase him, as soon as he hit the water he hid in the rockwork. I managed to catch a glimpse of him this morning and then he ran for it. Guess he didnt like my ugly mug staring at him!

Maybe you did not offer him a cup of coffee or a beer..... I know I need one of those depending on what time of day it is.....

kinda off the subject (sorry) but was this local fish store PETCO. Just wondering b/c i need some live rock to seed my tank and refuse to go to PETCO and don't know where else they sale saltwater fish.

There are a lot of LFS's around. Where are you actually at? Marine soultions, Beldts, and Gateway Aquatics are all im Mo.

8 miles south of Cape Girardeau or aprox. 120 miles south of St. Louis.

Your south of Cape and have never been to Travelers Gazeebo? I'm from Sikeston, and attend classes at Semo daily, so I'm always up there. Its really easy to find, just do a search for it in google and it will give a map. They dont have the best stuff, but they're all we have around us.

i have been to travelers to get mice, didn't realize they had saltwater setup. what wonderful news i will go there today to check out there setup. thanks.

I bought an 80 dollar wrasse that jumped out in 1 day and died.

I could have had a nice steak dinner instead of that fish!!!!!!!

I had a snowflake ocellaris jump out of a covered tank and die 6 hours later...that was a bad day :(

I bought 3 dispar anthias last weekend to go with my 1 lonely one I've had for 6 months. 1 jumped within a few hours and I probably found it 5 min too late. The remaining 2 new ones and the original one vanished over the next 2 days. My guess is the flame angel made them jump and they ended up in my dog's belly. :mad2:

Well, got a fish today to replace the goby. Got a longnose butterflyfish. He's a juvenile, but big enought he wont be able to escape through the eggcrate. He's actually doing well, the other fish try to harass him and he just raises up his spines and swims away. Wish me luck on this one, its my first butterflyfish!

Wow! Big difference...goby to butterfly! Good luck with him, I don't know much about butterflies :) Do you have corals in your tank or is it a FOWLR? If you've got corals you may want to look out, not sure if all butterflies are reef safe...

i'm bout ready to shoot my dragon gobie cause its dumping sand all over tank, whole tank is covered in sand, no more sandsifting fish.

I'm a FOWLR guy, dont have the money to get into the "reef" side of things. That and my Koran angel/Niger Trigger have other feelings about it... So far so good with the butterfly, looks happy and is not stressing!
