New fish

I just bought a new goby for my tank. I put him in and as usual my six line wrasse was aggressive, so as I've done in the past I put my new fish in a clear box with holes and sink it to the bottom so that the wrasse has to look at him for a few days and get used to him being there. I came home just now and the box was empty, the lid still on and the box still in place, I searched the tank for my goby, and around the tank too. How did he disappear?

What kind of goby is it? It may be hiding in the rock, or sand under the rock.

Also: Check around the tank on the floor. Some gobies are jumpers, and if the six line was harassing it, it may have gone carpet surfing...
