new fish

The Plexiglas sheet I used is less than 1/4 inch thick. It's more like 1/8 inch thick. I bent both 1/4 inch and 1/8 inch thick strips (one inch wide) using a heat gun. I find it easier to bend the thinner one without getting the Plexiglas bubbling up on me. I am not as good a DYI'er as 8Ball. He made beautiful straps for John Newby with a heat strip and a table saw. I believe that he bent a 1/4 inch sheet into the shape of the strap and then cut them into individual straps using a table saw.

The individual opening on the bird netting is more like 1/4 inch square

Correction: It's 1/2 inch square, not 1/4 inch square.
Sorry about this.

Although I have not had anyone jumping through the opening so far, if you want the openings to be smaller, you can just double the netting.

Here's a thread on flashers that's been running for awhile, but I just found it today for the first time. There are some really nice pics of flashers there as you get into the thread -- AND (as a special treat for Tomoko) the guy who started it lives in Japan :D

I exchanged a few emails with Dr. Tanaka, the originator of the thread/the writer of the Flasher Wrasse article (in Japanese of course :D ). He will be sending me a new updated CD of his publication which I'd like to share with you all when it arrives.
Until then, you can enjoy some more pictures in this site of his:

He is also an expert of angelfish. He is the co-author of the book, Angelfishes: A Comprehensive Guide to Pomacanthidae.

Not trying to be funny or anything but how do you send an email in Japanese? Do you have a different keyboard? If I knew Japanese I couldn't send an email (well, I don't think I could?)

Haha, I use a regular keyboard. Microsoft has a thing called Global Imput Method Editor which allows us to write things in foreign letters through an ordinary keyboard.

By the way, I am leaving for Japan tomorrow morning because my mother in Japan got injured seriously. I just found out about this this morning. I am scheduled to come back in two weeks. I am going to have to miss the meeting at John's this month. I will see you all later.

I hope my tanks will survive this ordeal...

Thank you, guys!
You all are the greatest. I am so grateful to have such good friends.

I told Reilly to yell for help here. Let's just hope he knows when to ask for help.

Mary -

John said that he got half a dozen Flasher and Fairy wrasses for us. Please ask John to hold one McCosker's wrasse for me.

Tomoko

Will do, We will miss you, but hope you find your Mother better than first thought.

Thanks for letting us know too.

Sorry Tomoko for the post in the earlier thread, I thought your trip was for pleasure. Make sure Reilly has all of our phone numbers. We will be thinking of you.
