New Flame Angel Twitching!!!

Oh man.. I have such bad luck with new fish , I don't get this.

I acclimated my new Flame for over an hour,, or an hour exactly.. using a drip, the equivelant of one turkey baste per every 15 minutes.. I doubled the LFS bag water, and put him in. He went to the back corner of the tank.. and is still there. (which seemed normal anyways..)

Now he's twitching!!!! ... anyone know why? I can't afford to lose this fish, as this is the most I have spent on one and I have lost too many fish IMO.. I thought I did everything right and by the books... he seemed 100% okay in the bucket, and seemed great in transit. The only times he looked stressed was when I accidently spooked him...

Please help it's such a beautiful fish, and I really would feel horrible if I lost yet another fish...

Thanks,

Scott

Twitching as in having little seizures? Or swimming around like it's trying to shake something off it's self?

It's just a quick twitch.. that's it. I turned the lights out an hour or so ago to lessen any possible stress. (or would that cause more?)

It has no ich, anything at all... both myself and LFS employee (a good LFS just to note) inspected the fish and it looked very healthy.

I hope it doesnt croak on me overnight :(

You should have the lights off when you introduce a fish to the tank. I always leave them off until the following day.

The twitching or momentarily flipping out is either some sort of parasite/ich but do you have other fish in the tank right now? The last time one of my fish was twiching and flipping out I stuck my arm in the tank and got electrocuted! Thankfully that a long *** time ago and I learned a lesson from it --- after setting up the tank and not grounding my lighting properly!

my percula used to do that, hed go then have a mini seizure when another fish came by, he died a while after that from stress during a while out of the tank for some meintenence

Male clowns generally exibit that behavior. It is there way of letting the female clown know that she is the boss. I don't think it's applicable to his situation.

It might of just been parasite he was trying to shake off, at some stages they are impossible to see to the naked eye. A good reason to QT :D

Also, a big problem with flames is cyanide poisoning. It's always the most beautiful (colorful) ones. The cyanide can make they look unreal they are so stunning.

Errrr....

There is no shocking feeling when sticking my hand in.. that's not it.

I guess I'll hope for the best, feed with garlic and do a good water change after lights out tomorrow ....

Update*

Still seeing twitches this morning. The fish doesn't try to scratch himself on anything though.. it just happens while swimming.

If the little bugger would come out of hiding in the back corner, perhaps I could soak some mysis and flake and get some food in his belly to help fight whatever this may be off.. :(

Had a C. eblii do the same--also noticed that it was not very responsive to anything, especially when I approached, etc. It died within 24 hours of being introduced to the tank, and I strongly suspect cyanide was the culprit.

Don't quote me, but your flame angel sounds very similar.

Is the flame in the 20 gallon specified in your description? If so, this tank is way to small. IF you can't QT him, then there is no point in stressing about something you cannot control. With a QT you can atleast run hypo and a light copper treatment for 14 days to knock it off him. All you can do now is keep the water parameters perfect and hope for immunity.

He's actually coming out more and more now, not twitching too much.. he looks pretty good. He is responsive to me coming up to the tank, he'll hide, whatever.. he spooks somewhat easy as well. I know cyanide could definitely be an option, and I will keep that in mind.

My tank is not way too small. But thank you for the concern. Plans to upgrade are in my near future anyhow. I wouldn't want to jump the gun and run hypo and use copper anyways... as I think this would ultimately add MORE stress to the fish. I think keeping stress to a minimal, feeding with garlic, and keeping paramaters great will be the best for this fish as of RIGHT now anyways.

Thank you all for your help so far.
