New Frag Tank - nothing fancy

I just set up my first frag tank and it's been running about a week. It isn't very fancy but I got tired of picking frags out of the rubble at the bottom of my main tank - so this will have to do for now. The decorating committee wouldn't approve any more tanks in the house so it's been banished to the garage.

Is there any reason to do water changes when there aren't any fish? Will periodically adding two-part be enough?

I'm not sure on the water change part and no fish.. If anything I would add a hang on back filter and run carbon in it. Can pickup a cheap one at walmart for like 20bucks or less. That is all I had on my 10 gallon nano when I had it up. and it did great till the power outage last summer.

You plan on making the 58 a frag tank when you move?

Yup, got the light figured out. I feel kind of stupid, but the problem was that I didn't know how to use the timer - I thought it was on when it was really off.

Lonnie - the 58 will probably end up a frag tank but its going to be a while until I get something bigger. I'm guessing we'll be moving in about a month. The house is bricked and all the sheetrock is up. A little more plaster, flooring, and cabinetry and we'll be ready to go.

I don't think the skimmer is needed. I'd take Lonnie's advise and go with the HOB filter (But throw away the Bio-wheel). A cheapy from walmart is (I think) a Penguin. Hell I have one I laoned to Rich1976 last week but he bought a bigger one. If you want to come and grab it you can.

i would do periodic water changes to replace any trace minerals used up by the corals and prevent deficiencies

i got the bigger walmart hang on also not using if you need it, plus a small 160 gph powerhead,not using either just accidently break of some more candy cane coral.
