New Frag Tank

Ok- so I'm setting up a frag tank. I am having to frag my caps and a few other corals so often that the bottom of my tank is covered with frags. I really don't have much of a plan.

It will be 24 x 24 x 12 acrylic tank.

I plan on using one metal halide. I don't know any specifics besides I am going to try a Lumenarc III relector. Any thoughts on wattage, kelvin, bulb or ballast type.

Any advice would help.

I think you would be okay with a 175 pendant over a tank that shallow. I would go with a 10k since growth is probably your primary concern.

Have you used Sanjay's page? It will let you view the performance of different ballasts on a given bulb.

what type of overflow should I use?

Should I use standpipes, or bulkheads with strainers in the back glass, or just build a overflow box?

I figured I would use bulkheads in the back glass. One for return and one for drain.

Now I'm looking for lights. Anyone have a 175 or 250 ballast?

Zoe has learned to say ball and uh oh from the other kids. She doesn't seem to mind it at all.

Give her time Dave... She will be saying more "words" she has picked up from other kids very soon. Hopefully you won't be in church...
