New GBTA

I just got a new GBTA today. It is my first attempt at a BTA. I had a sebea for about 6-7 months, unfortunately it died due to an injury from a "rock slide" in a cleaning accident.

It appears to be a good speciman. It was attached to a rock, dark brownish green color (my sebea was very bleached). It detached from the rock on the way home. Once in the tank, it slowly moved across the lr (assualting a bubble corral along the way) and into the back and underside of my rocks where it currently hanging upsidedown. It's foot is firmly attached to the rocks. My two clowns have even started trying to host in it.

From what I have read in other threads, this should not be a major concern for right now. How long should I let it settle in before I should try to feed it? My only ocncern is that I will probably have to move it for feeding since it's current location is not easily accessible.

Thanks, and I love the forum!

It will settle in where it is happy. Usually where medium flow and medium light are both present. Especially if it is new, it should move around quite a bit.

My new GBTA got sucked into the screen of one of my circulation pumps last night!!!!!

I thought they were appropriately screened, but evidently I was wrong. I feel like an idiot. I really don't want to lose it, and the thought that my own stupidity is probable going to kill it makes it even worse. I had read all about the preparations needed on intakes and I thought I was covered. The pumps have been in the tank for almost a year and a half and I never had any problems with them (although they had never been anemone tested).

Initially it looked pretty torn up. I was able to very, very gently free it. It reattached to a rock and most of the tentacle bubbled back up to pre-incident status.

Since I had to tear down much of the rock work to get to it, I went ahead and rescreened the pump intakes. Once done working inside the tank, the GBTA started moving around again, got caught in a current and ended up attaching itself to the glass. It attached with most of its foot as it inched along about 3 inches until it came to a rock near the glass. It is currently wedged between the rock and the glass, with the great majority of the tentacles out and bubbled on the tip.

What, if anything, can I do for it?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Nothing to do but keep the water clean and feed it. Well, that and hope it doesn't end up back in the intake.

A lot of people have had BTAs make full recoveries after getting stuck in a powerhead or intake. I had a BTA split into 3 clones. One of the clones climbed into the intake of my Seio twice. I heard it go in the first time and immediately turned the powerhead off. The second time he could have been in for as long as an hour. That clone doesn't look as good as the other 2 but is definately not dieing so I believe it will rebound nicely.

It is still between the rock and the glass. It's tentacles are full inflated. It's foot is attached, but twisted between the glass and the rock. Depending on the angle, it almost looks like 2 different anemones.

I am planning on doing a water change later this evening and am going to try and feed it tomorrow.

What kind of time frame am I looking at for recovering?

What are signs that it might be splitting?

What are some signs that it is taking a turn for the worst?

Thanks again for any help, I would greatly appreciate it!

sounds like a good plan. My clone that wandered into the intake twice still looks a little funny but is now eating and back in the light, it was about 3 weeks or a month ago that he wandered into the intake. I don't know of any signs of a split aside from the obvious fission which often starts in the foot.

As for what to look for. Just see if the tentacles are out and looking "normal" for your anemone. If he takes a real turn for the worse his tentacles will dissolve or shrivel up and your anemone will look like a stump. Also look at his mouth, gaping is a bad sign. His mouth should be closed fairly tightly most of the time and it should not look puffy at all.

Still between the glass and rock and the tentacles are fully inflated and what I can see of the foot looks firmly attached.

I think it just ate a peice of silver side. The it is positioned I cannot see the mouth, but it took a piece which then disappeared into an inflated mass of tentacles completely out of sight.

It then grabbed hold of another piece which it is currently holding. It is deep in the tentacles, but visible.

So far so good I guess, just have to wait and see.
