New GHL SA doser and questions.

Hi Guys,
I just got a new GHL SA doser and I have a few questions. First off when would it be best to dose Alk at night and calcium during the day? Secondly is there anybody running there dosers in automatic where there will be 20 dosings therefore increasing the stability? I read where this is a bad idea because of the decreased dosing amounts and the possibilities of getting screwed up numbers. And last question is what are you guys doing about the increase in salinity over time using 2 part? Is there a rule of thumb that my salinity will increase over X amount of time? Thanks guys, Dan.

Rising salinity level is the drawback of 2-parts dosing. Obviously, how much of an increase depends on how much you dose and your tank water volume. For my system of ~70gallon total volume, I dose 70ml of ALK, 100ml of CA, and about 80ml of magnesium. I see a 0.1mS rise every other day or ~0.4mS in a week on my conductivity reading. There's no real good way of fixing this issue unless you set up a sophisticated auto water change set up and associate the conductivity probe with the set up.
What I do now is just take a cup of water out everyday to thaw my food and let the ATO make it up with freshwater. This seems to solve the issue pretty well.
I use "Auto Dosing" for CA and MAG because there's no reason why you want to dose it at a certain time of the day. Auto dosing will distribute the amount over the day evenly.
For ALK, I use manual because I want to stabilize my PH from falling at night so I set it to dose larger amount at night than during the day.
You should read the sticky at the top. :)

I agree. I dose approx 35 ml of alk manually mostly at night. I don't have lots of SPS so my amount is minimal. I do dose 75% of that during the night hours to stabilize my ph. I do dose calcium automatically. And I do not see that much of a change with my salinity.

Cool thank you for the reply. Just one question which sticky should I read?

Sorry, didn't realize yours is a stand alone doser. I have a slave which is controlled by the Profilux. What I said about dosing is still true and I think the stand alone doser have a similar set up.
