New Guy In Sierra Vista

Hey everyone....

Im piecing together my first reef tank at the moment, hoping to start the cycle shortly after the new year sometime. I've had freshwater tanks all my life and am finally taking the plunge into a marine tank.

Its a standard 75g with 20L sump. I still have to pick up my lights and RO/DI filter before getting started.

Cheers

Well I've budgeted $250-300 for it and am still doing a bit of research. I know its a bit on the low side so Im trying to find something used here first.

Just got my 1500gph overflow box from glass-holes yesterday and my Reef Octopus XS 160 should arrive very soon. Im not happy with the Aqueon stand that came with my tank and my LFS agreed since its still brand new to take it back in exchange for store credit. So this coming Monday I'll start on a new much beefier stand with better access to the sump.

So in a nutshell Im slowly piecing things together. Shouldn't be too much longer and if worse comes to worse it's almost tax return time.

A whole lot has changed since the late 90s when I worked at Tropical Kingdom on Prince and Campbell

Hello,
My husband and I are putting together our first reef tank. We live in Sierra Vista as well and are curious if there is an active reef club that meets here in town. Our thoughts are sharing tips, support, as well as some sort of back-up for everyone in case of emergencies....

Let me know if there is any kind of support system here in SV.
Thanks!

nope, not that I know of, just a handful of local reefers that are more than happy to give advice and barter for live stock and such, lol

I say you get 2 Radion XR30Ws!!! thats what i have on my reef and a a MP40 and MP10 i love the thunderstorm mode! I need to youtube that sucker

Ive met a few around town but nothing official like a club or anything. It would be nice to be able to frag swap or get together over a few beers and talk tanks.

Both our LFS in town are clueless about marine fish but are slowly learning.

Be careful - one of mine got to be about 18" long. We call it the mega-worm and it's not for the squeamish. So far it does behave itself so it can stay.

That sounds great. I'm new at this but the hubby built tanks in Tucson for years. We are still finishing up ours. It's about 180 gal and we have custom made everything except the tank itself and obvious equip. Been a work in progress for about 7 months. Should move it into the house soon...

But really, beer and tanks sound great....

:eek2:

sounds like a fulgida worm, silly goose ;)
do you find that your snails and crabs are dwindling?
if it ever decides to stop behaving, this works well:

i have personally seen the success of this style of trap. the beast was almost 2 feet long and it ate half a mandarin and a myriad of snails...

oh yeah, and welcome to RC, Sierra Vistarians! :D glad to have you aboard!

the desert aquarist society is in tucson but it only meets a few times a year, so if you really want a club to join then maybe it's worth the occasional trip (or maybe it's worth starting one in SV!).

I am in Sierra Vista, just have a 24G Aquapod for the moment. A few years back we would have a monthly meeting, but it slowly dwindled. If anyone needs anything down this way let me know.
