hey guys. i am posting here because my wife and i live in boynton beach. i just wanted to introduce myself and give my experience so far. i have had a couple of freshwater tanks in the past but my wife really wanted a saltwater tank so we got a 29 biocube 6 months ago.

we quickly realized that we (I?) hate lugging buckets to do water changes, and the green hair algae took over. so thanks to you guys i decided to buy a rodi unit and a dual head stenner pump to make our own saltwater and automate the water change. i got it mostly set up last night and started making my first batch of rodi water. well, after approx. 50 gallons of water, the di resin is spent. as you can see in the picture, hulk hogan is not too happy about it.

anyway, after doing more research it seems my well water most likely has too much c02 which is depleting the di resin quickly. it seems i am forced to build an offgassing contraption which leads me to my questions as to which option would be better:

option 1: pvc tower with a bubble stone inside which would gravity feed through the di resin

option 2: ro water in to my brute can and let it offgas with a bubbler overnight and then cycle the water through di with an additional pump

i have also considered adding an aerator to my well water treatment system because the water also has hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg smell), however i have a big carbon filter that does a pretty good job with that already...but i could kill two birds with 1 stone with a aerator i suppose. my wallet is sure getting skinny though if you know what i mean :spin1:

Al dog- if i where you ide contact some of the RC sponsors that sell water treatment stuff like The Filter Guys, Spectrapure, or air water and ice. Not many on here that i know have been able to tackle the well water issues easily.

Thanks aquaman, I will consider that if my plan does not work. I have designed a co2 offgas chamber thing to offgas all of the water before it goes in to the rodi filter that I am going to test. Hopefully it works "well" haha.

I am still in the process of setting up the automatic water changer with the stenner pump. I got the tubing all ran through the wall/attic to my garage a couple nights ago and then I need to order some more DI resin too.

A FYI in case anybody ever wondered...I have a aquatec 8800 booster pump that made 90 psi when it was hooked up to my house water supply (40-60psi). I wondered how much pressure it would make just sucking water out of a container, and to my suprise it held 80psi that way! That is good information and a key component to my co2 offgas chamber design :fish1:

The first thing in trying to troubleshoot your system is to define the problem. What is the TDS of your RO (no DI) water?

What pressure does your gauge show when the sytem is running?
