New Guy Needs Plumbing Help!!!

Hello all. Im totally new to this and just joined CMAS a few weeks ago. This is my first tank and I am not a plumber, nor do I know a good one. So I'm calling on the experts for help.
I need to plumb my built-in overflow to the sump. I want to add ball valves for flow control and maintenance.
I want to do this right the first time.
Here is a short list of my system;
• AllGlass MegaFlow 75g Tank (built in overflow & pre drilled)
• AllGlass MegaFlow #3 sump (about 25g)
• AllGlass MegaFlow Overflow accessory kit
• Mag Drive 1200 Pump
• Coralife Super Skimmer 125 (in sump)

1. First question. I assume it should not be this simple? (see diagram below) I have to be missing something. i.e. a Tee, Check valve, Reduction fitting? Logic tells me this should work, but I never plumbed an aquarium before, so what do I know.

2. Second question. I looked at a Union Ball valve at Home Depot and it seems like inner diameter is smaller to accommodate its functions. Will that reduction restrict my water flow?

3. Third and final. Any reason I should use Flexible PVC over Vinyl tubing?

I also have an enlarged, scalable PDF version of the above diagram. http://www.pagereef.com/plumbing.pdf

I intentionally left the skimmer out of the diagram because it is out of the flow line in question.

Thanks all,

Nick

you look like you've got it. I've only used PVC so I'm not sure vinyl tubing will work with ball valves but if it does, your set up is exactly like mine.
I would use regular PVC, once glued always glued and no worries about clamps coming undone. Where are you going to put your skimmer in that sump? External skimmer?

Thanks. :D
Skimmer is going in the sump. It fits if I take the sump's cover off. I'll probably rig up a new cover for it.
