Hey guys pretty new to the hobby I recently purchased a 195 litre tank and currently have 10kg of live rock in there but I'm looking to bulk this out a bit I'm currently looking at Ocean rock as a alternative to dry live rock would this be a bad move ?

I was recommended this by carterhouse aquatics here in England as a alternative as they don't have any dry rock in stock :-/

First... There is no such thing as "Dry Live Rock"... If its really dry its not live anymore..

But looking online "Ocean Rock" just looks like normal dry rock.. Looks like all the rest of the dry rock out there for the most part..

Correct me if im read your question wrong you have 10kg of live rock with the system you purchase. Now you want to add more rocks, instead of purchasing dry rock at your lfs which they dont have in stock at the moment. You want to use the dry rock from the ocean. Me personally i wouldnt might have contamination of any sort

No I brought 10kg of live rock separate from my tank purchase but I don't want to add anymore for risk of hitchhikers so I want to add dry rock and my Lfs has told me the dome have any dry rock in however they have suggested dry ocean rock as a alternative

well.. you are going to need to explain to us what the difference between dry rock and dry ocean rock is then..

maybe "man made" vs pulled from ocean/old reef sites and dried out,etc...??

Go on amazon and find you a 40lb box of dry ocean rock. That is "dry live rock". It has to cure and become "real" live rock just like any other, except I've found it becomes real live rock in my dosed systems within 6 months tops (usually within 3 months it's completely bright pink or purple, but I have a wonderful species of coralline i transfer/"introduce" to each of my systems from my main system.

That is just "dry rock"...
It has the potential to become "live" but its not..

You can't have a "dry rainy day" but a dry day can potentially become a rainy day.. But if its dry its not rainy ;)

Having coralline growth has nothing to do with it being "live"..
"live" is all about being covered/occupied by bacterial colonies which happens much quicker than 3-6 months..

Just trying to be "accurate" here... to avoid confusion
