Hey I'm brand new here so I thought I would register and say whatsup? I've been reading topics on this site and thought it was a great source for information and whatnot, so I registered.

As for the Tank, I just bought an All-Glass 45 Gallon Aquarium and Black Wood stand with a glass top.

I've been into Tropical Freshwater for a while now with good results, and have always been into saltwater. So I'm giving it a try.

My Name is Elliott, I'm 21, I live in Wenatchee, WA (Right in the middle of the state). I work for an Ambulance company out here as a Full Time Emergency Medical Technician.

For the Tank I'm going to go full reef. I've been reading lots for the past two months to see what I'm getting into.

[welcome]

Good sized starter tank :) What type of reef are you planning? Stony corals, soft corals, etc? Just curious.

Good luck ;)

I'm doing lots of research first, but I'm thinking Zoos, Xenia, Sun Polyps, Possibly some Acoropa up top, Etc.
I'm Still looking though. I want lots of color in this tank.

So far this is My list:

Silver Pumping Xenia
White and Green Starburst Polyps
Colony or Green Button Polyps
Cauliflower Colt Coral
Kenya Tree Coral
Some Hawaii Feather Dusters
Some sort of Bulb Anemone possibly.

I might that list up a bit to add more color to the tank.
Any Suggestions?

Inverts:
Dwarf Electric Blue Hermits

And a Big Algae Cleanup Crew

For Equipment:
Aqua C Remora HOB Skimmer
Fluval 305 Canister Filter
Nova Extreme T-5 w/lunar Lights

3-4 Powerheads

45-50LBS Live Rock
20LBS Live Sand Over another 40lbs of Regular Sand
Hang On Internal Refugium w/Chaeto, Live Sand and Rock Rubble

If anyone has any input/Suggestions I'd appreciate it. Especially towards corals. I don't mind putting alot of effort into the tank either.

Also, where is a reputable place to buy coral online (theres no coral stores nearby)

Welcome on board RC! You're on the right path doing LOTS of research first. Follow that plan before doing ANYTHING and you'll save yourself lots of $$ and heartache. Scary to think I got into all this without knowing about RC!!

for corals, remember to take into account that some of them will harm each other, and some will release chemicals that harm others. I've read where its not good to mix soft corals with SPS (like acros) and LPS (like hammer corals). And i've heard its worse to have all 3....but then again, thats exactly what i have in my tank lol. I've got lots of softies, a couple lps and sps and i havent seen any problems. Altho i think i just found my first non-put-next-to-each-other-able corals lol. I have my yellow fiji leather next to a red mushroom and the leather hasnt opened for about a week now.

and i personally think that 10 fish is a lot. I've got 5 in my 40 breeder and i think its rather cramped, but they all seem fine.

Yeah I'm going to narrow that Fish list down for sure. I've been told that the leathers will have a Chemical War with other Corals, So I'm Staying away from the leathers...

I think I would like to have some corals that are going to floresce under the actinics...

Ya i dont know...i've got 5 or 6 leathers in my 40 with a bunch of stuff like xenia, kenya tree, green stars, zoas, etc...never seen anything bad other than just this week when i put the fiji yellow next to that red mushroom.

As for stuff that fluoresces under actinics...green star polyps are great for that, but you already got that on your list...My hammer coral looks awsome under actinics...maybe something like that?

Yup, I was planning on getting one of those as well. Maybe a Torch Coral instead. I will have to figure out more of it once I get all the LR in there.

I would lose the fluval filter system. You really don't need it unless you are just going to run carbon through it. They have a tendency to create nitrates. And you wan to keep those low in a reef tank.

The rock will provide natural filtration for the tank.

Do you plan on having a sump? If so save your money and get a better skimmer. If you don't have a center brace underneath your stand you might be able to fit a 30 gallon sump in there and then you can upgrade to a Euro-Reef or ASM skimmer which will do a much better job than the AQUA C.

Good luck with the set up. If I can help please don't hesitate to ask.

Regards,

Pat
