New Heater Recommendation Needed

I have been running a Won Brothers Pro-Heat II 1000w Titanium heater now for 6 months and I just found that it has stopped heating today. I went from my standard 79.5 degrees down to 75.1. It is still under warranty, but I have read enough threads to know that it is not always a reliable heater and most likely I should replace it. I pulled the plug and put some spare Visi-Therms in to bring the temp back up. Does anyone have suggestions for a new heater ... maybe something with the digital LCD display like this one has as well? Let me know.

Thanks!

Sara

I had looked into the same thing, and did not find any ringing endorsements on brand. I have 2 Won brothers digital and a Jalli, all read 2-3 degree's off. From what I have gatherd, Ranco makes a great temp controler, much more accurate than the digital displays, and able to control a few fans//chiller also. Plus it is safer..you can set the Ranco at say 80..if it fails have the heaters set at 82 or so..

I like the Finnex I have. PA swears by them. Got the one with the separate controller.

I also like the ranco controllers. Or any of the nicer controllers. I have a Ranco that I have been using for years. I also like the Reef keeper ciontrollers from Digital aquatics. I am not a big fan of titanium heaters. Especially the WON brothers. I did break down and am trying another Finnex.. so far so good.. My favorite heater is the good ole ebo-jager.

Thanks all for the recommendations. I will get the Ranco Controller on order today and pick up another spare heater as well for while the WON is out on repair.

Can someone please let me know who sells the Ranco Controller? I checked Premium Aquatics and Marine Depot with no luck. Ranco sounds like something you buy "As Seen on TV".

Thanks!

I found the Ranco at Foster & Smith and I have a question regarding the controller. For the single controller it appears that you can only have a single heater plugged into it up to 1000 watts. My WON is a 1000 Watt, but is it okay to have a single heater @ 1000 watts or are two 500 watts better in case "something" goes wrong with the one heater ... like I had happen last night? Also, I don't have a chiller as the basement sump and fuge is my cooling device. My question is, will the single controller meet my needs?

RANCO SPEC's:
Single Stage controls a single device (a heater or chiller) and Dual Stage controls two devices (1 heater and 1 chiller). Displays in Ã"šÃ‚°C or Ã"šÃ‚°F.

Dual: for chillers up to 1/2 HP (115V), and heaters up to 500 watts. $150

Single: for chillers up to 1/2 HP (115V), and heaters up to 1,000 watts. $90

Sara,

I have a Medusa controller with (2) 300w heaters plugged into it for redundancy purposes for my 125g set-up. It is rated to 1500w but do not know how it compares to the Ranco controller.
