New heaters

Looking for ideas on getting one or two heaters for sps pls tank, the tank is a 120 in first floor @ around 70 degrees, the sump refuge is in basement @ 65 degrees usuallly. Looking to keep it around 78. Thoughts on wattage and brands would b great Ty!!!:spin3:

I'm a fan of the Eheim Jager heaters. The only downside is they are very long, so be mindful of that if you get them. They've long been considered one of the most reliable heaters in existence. They work well independently or with a controller.

Eheim Jager or Aqueon Pro (<-- Pro is VERY important.. )
You will need roughly 5-6x total volume in terms of wattage for that difference in temps..

And split that wattage across 2 heaters.. and run them all on a controller like the Inkbird Or Ranco as the thermostats on ALL heaters can/will fail at sometime or another..

Inkbird heater controller... Works great for up to 1000W (2 heaters max)

The green inkbird has heating and cooling (for fans,etc.. in the summer)
Blue (link above) is only heating

Ty!!!ideas on size wattage or redundancy?

I'm a fan of running 2 mid-sized heaters rather than 1 big one. I'd say 2x250 - 300w would work well for you. I use 2x200w Eheim Jagers on my tank with total volume of 112g. 99% of the time only 1 of the heaters is needed to maintain temperature. The second one is set to go on .2 degrees lower than the first as a fallback in case the first one can't keep up. It almost never turns on.

i'm a big fan of the ViaAqua titanium heaters.

i have one in my main tank with a regular glass heater as its backup, and also have/had a second one that was heating my grow out tank.

they have their own controller that lets you select temp, but i leave that as a fail safe and rely on my apex temperature probe as my primary monitor for them in the main tank.

I have one of the Eheim Jagers and it's worked great. When ktownhero says they're very long he's not exaggerating. I have a 150 watt and it barely fits horizontally in the big compartment in my 20 long sump.

I have also used the Aqueon Pros and liked them a lot. Main thing I liked about them is that they weren't glass, so it made me think they were harder to break (never tested that theory luckily).

Somewhat of a tangent question that will hopefully help the OP: If, say, you happen to be fiscally minded (AKA cheap) and happen to have 2 different heaters laying around, can that Inkbird be used with 2 different wattage heaters?

can that Inkbird be used with 2 different wattage heaters?

Sure can.. no problems. no different than just plugging both into the wall and the controller just turns both outlets on/off based on the probe reading.. It has no idea whats hooked into the outlets at all..
