Hi all, been 8 years since I last was into reefing. I recently had a son and figured he should have some of the joys in seeing a reef tank. I started a biocube 16g and have just completed the cycle. So far with the 16g, I have about 20 lbs of live rock and a inch in a half of live sand, also have a cpr media tumbler in chamber 2 a coralife skimmer in chamber 1 ( I've heard they are not the best but with a tank this small it's going to be mostly about water changes ) and in chamber 3 I replaced the 900 pump with a mj 1200, also have the heater in there as well. For flow I have a vortech mp10, and I removed the hood and got a kessil a80 with the gooseneck and controller. I'm hoping all will go well, I've made many mistakes in the past when I was younger with my 75g and I will be trying to do everything right this time around.

Feels nice to be back in the hobby

I did get a frogspawn and a galaxia for a good deal, put them in today. I'll keep everyone posted as things go forward

Hey there! I too am a returning hobbiest. The major difference I have seen thus far is in equipment technoligy and ease of finding research material on the interwebs.

Overall, it's been a lot better the second go around. I hope it goes well for you too. I'm sure your son will love staring at the tank for many years to come.

Good luck and welcome back!

Thank you for the warm welcome. I do hope he will enjoy it as much as I have in the past. It is odd how much things have changed since when I first started, but I'm happy about the info that's easy to find now.

Welcome back to the hobby! I
have a IM Nuvo 16 and it's been running for a year now and so far everything's "fine" considering it's quite a disaster for me but still I'm hanging....

Don't let you son have too much exposure to the blue lights. I read that it can be harmful. Don,t forget he may look up from a low position and get the full exposure from the lights

Have Fun with the tank

Yeah I have noticed if we are level with the tank he tends to want to look up at the light. My wife and I usually keep him at a distance for now. Next month he will be 1 😊. So far the tank is doing well, I picked up a pacillopra (spelling not right?) and he had bubble algae all over his base. Was not too happy about that since I was not sure how to handle it. I ended up fragging him before adding him to the tank to keep things safe, I didn't have any glue on hand but used epoxy instead. Don't think it looks the best but in the end no bubble algae so I'll call it a win. I'll post pics soon.

All is looking well, just disappointed I had to frag the sps so soon

figured I would update some pics of the tank. Possibly went a little too crazy with the corals but all are showing great health

So I am new to the hobby and this forum. If someone could be kind enough to email me explains how to post pics or start a forum I'd be very appreciative.

Son turned 1 the other day so I figure I should update this thread, so far the a80 wasn't cutting it for certain corals I have in the tank so I upgraded to a a360. Been about a week since having it and corals seem to be doing better ( getting color back ). I also bought a tunze osmolator 3155, probably one of the best purchases so far that ive made for the tank considering I work 12 hour shifts. Ill try to get a pic of one of the corals getting his color back. Was pretty excited when I saw it. Oh and I ditched the skimmer, thing didnt do much at all..
