So yesterday I took a trip to my LFS and was only going in to buy a new test kit. We walked out with 2 new corals and a peppermint shrimp! Oops! But what we didn't know was we really got the corals the shrimp what I believe is another coral(don't know what it is tho) and 2 red brittle sea stars! Keep in mind that the corals we got were a bright green fluorescent mushroom, and a COLONY of the 8 tenticle star polyps! Literally a 1 pound peice of rock covered in these! For $42! But tonight we were looking at both of them and notices some spiney red arms sticking out of the 2 pieces of rock that the corals came on! We got 2 brittle stars for free! Woohoo!:bounce3::bounce3::bounce3::bounce3::bounce3::bounce3:

Ok I have since another one! And I am pretty sure they r baby stars because they are very tiny. but they almost look like a thin read/pink arms that slowly rise from the rock and their arms have what looks like little tiny white thin hairs. I just got done watching its arm come up and pull a small star polyp down and bent it in half! Idk if I can get a pic because it is so small and it doesn't come out in the light but I have seen 2 arms on this one. I really don't want these to take over the tank and eat all my fish and I really don't want it to eat corals so how do I figure out what it is? And how do I remove them? I haven't seen a full body yet that's why I'm afraid it's not a star.

PLZ HELP!

I have just found out my new rock that the coral is encrusted on is home to 5 bristle worms! As well as 3 aptasia anemones :( my plan for tomarrow is to frag off both mushrooms and a a couple polyps from my star polyps and glue them to a new peice of coralline alge encrusted rock or frag plugs and throw away the rest of the rock and hopefully extinguish the problem

connorg if ur going to frag the star polyps can u do 1 more frag and ship it out to me ?
all i can get are the tan

The ones I have are tan/maroonish with a fluorescent green center. But I will see if I am able to ship them, this will be my first time and I'm not sure how it will go.

Hello Connorg,
Try identifying under micro brittle stars, I have black and white that came with a clavularia colony but red and white are common also. They are usually id'd as harmless and this has been true for me for 2 mos. now. Good luck.:)

I ended up just fraging off the polyps and returning the rock because I really didn't like the look of the them :) basically got a colony for free:)

I get atleast 10 mini stars every time I get a coral from my lfs. I love my lfs :) here is a picture of one of the ones I got yesterday, its by far the largest mini star I have seen.
