New Homes for my Fish

As you might know I've also fallen to the wrasse bug and have been adding spectacular fish to my new 220 from top notch vendors such LiveAquaria and Pacific Island Aquatics. If you've ever kept a wrasse, you know they like to sleep under a rock or overhang, many times digging out sand to make themselves a home. When I started putting together my new tank, this was one thing I kept in mind, trying to make 'homes' in the rock for wrasses. I have one perfect rock in the back corner that has been a popular spot to hide and sleep, and with many wrasses I felt like I wanted to add more.

Using some dry rock, a masonry bit, a flat head screwdriver, and the back side of my hammer I created some nice 'housing' for my fish...mostly geared towards my wrasses. Additionally, all of them have at least two entries to allow escape if one seeks refuge in these if being chased so there is no 'dead end'. . I plan to put them in tomorrow probably and hopefully they'll go over well. Enjoy:

Thanks. Hard to tell on the pics but these are probably 2-3 inches deep inside the rock to allow them to sit on the sand and still have room inside the rock.

Wrasse Condos! nice! I am currently starting to restock my tank, and want to do a anthias/wrasse dominant habitat, and I have plenty of dry rock sitting in the garage...

Thanks for posting.

Yeah, haha. I wanted to get a larger rock and make two sides to it so I could post as a double condo but I don't have large enough rocks for that, haha.

Nice idea, I've always placed my rocks in a way to create caves under them to serve the same purpose. Seems that fairy wrasses are the only ones that use them. Most of the time I find my flashers wedged in a hole somewhere hidden.

Ok, got the "luxury" homes in the tank and I really like them and so do the fish apparently since they were in them within 5 minutes of me getting my hands out of the tank.

Pics - water was still a bit cloudy from messing with sand and the dust on the rock:

Male Red Velvet claiming the house:

I'm jealous I had a red velvet that ate from my hand. Loved that fish. Jumped and I saved him and disappeared 1 week later

Thanks. He's a stud but is currently being chased around by my Solar wrasse...which I plan to get out somehow. Here is a better pic of him:
