i just read that in a tank around 20", you can go with 175watt MH lights. in a 6' tank, could go with 3 175watt MH lights spaced evenly apart?

sure, why not, people light their 125's, 150's and 180's this way all the time, just depends on what corals you are keeping and how much light you want, 175 vs 250 vs 400 watt

Is there a question in this post? Are you concerned with something? Mostly, people try to space their MH's about 2' apart. However some have gotten away with bigger spaces due to excellent reflectors which provide greater light delivery. I guess I'm not sure what your post is regarding.

I think the question is the part of his post that ends with the "?"

If you have a 125, or 180 I would still reccomend 250's, especially if you want to run higer K bulbs. 175W with a 6700, or 10K bulb would probably work just fine, but if you run 20K then you would need 250 IMHO.
