New inhabitants for my nano.

I finally got around to taking a pic of the new guys I got for my 10 gallon. I went to The Jungle and got a Red Bali Star and Flame Scallop. The Scallop is huge (3" or 4"). The star lays around with one leg in the air alot. It climbs the glass and "skims" the surface most of the time. I just thought I would share...enjoy.

I love my Flame scallops. Is yours the electric variety that has electrical conductivity in the mouth? I have 2 of the non electric type, but if I ever get another. it will be the electric scallop.

Have you laughed your arse off watching them pump around the tank?

andy: It is just a plain scallop. These are the filter feeder type. The electric ones are carnivores. I wanted a natural filter for the 10 gallon. And yes, I have found him to be rather funny. I did a water change Tuesday and he was in the top corner. WHen the water level dropped below where he liked it, he started squirting me. My wife got a good laugh out of it too.

I have heard that it is not actual electric conductivity, but kind of a bio-luminescent type of situation. I am not sure myself, but that is waht I have heard. It is more of an attractant for pods and such than anything. I think there is a debate somwhere in the forums.

MVlk: Thanks, The Jungle had a few for $15. Not bad at all for a hardy starfish. They are small and colorful and fun to watch.

wat up playa?!?!?!

That star looks cool.

My understanding is that the "electric" ones are actually just moving a small fold of skin. Look closely next time you're at the LFS and see one. ;)

The starfish may be showing off and doing one-handed push ups. Any lady starfish in the tank?

LOL Rhett, I thought about getting Harlequin shrimps for that tank. I don't think he would be saying that if that were the situation. I changed my mind, because I do not want him to become lunch for them.

Brandon, I think you are right. I believe it is a reflective skin flap. I heard somewhere that you cannot see it at night, so that throws out the bio-luminescent idea.

I love how everyone has a different idea of what he is "saying". It reminds me of the "fill in the thought bubble" pictures you see in magazines. The best answer would win something and everyone would end up laughing their heads off...good times.
