Hey guys need some advice here. I am upgrading my tank to a 155 gallon bowfront. I am planning on groing all typs of coral (SPS, LPS, Zoas) and am currently having sucess with T5HO's though no SPS yet. I have narrowed it dow to these 2 lighting systems due to their cost not being out of my budget.

The first option is 3 led modules form Reef Radiance.:http://reefradiance.com/dm-165p.html

The second option is this 8 bulb 72 inch T5HO fxture on ebay:

I plan on running ATI bulbs on this one if i choose it.

I dont have any experience wit LED's yet but i do like the color i get form my current T5's.

Should i go with the LED's due to cheaper overall operating cost in the long run. Or should i stick with the T5's. I know bulbe replacement and electricticy will be quite expensive.

Which fuxture will be better for coral color and growthor will it be pretty much a toss up?
thanks.

This is a debate that could run on for days! There are also those that believe a mix renders the best results. Either way, I would think you would be fine. My wife and I have been running LEDs exclusively for over 2 years with great results and fantastic coral growth from both LPS and SPS. T5s are tried and true and fortunately LEDs have matured to the point they have been proven as well.

I've been using AI Sol Blues for about four years now and have had great success. I recently added two 80w t5's to compliment my LEDs. I'm hoping this will help with some coloration in some of my corals.

If you choose to go LED, I'd suggest going with a known brand in case anything happens. You can always get replacement part if needed.

If you're ever down here in Tucson, you're more than welcome to stop by and take a look at my setup.
