New Lawnmower Blennie

I put a LB in my QT tank on Saturday. He's been sitting in a hole in a rock most of the time. I did catch him trying to eat some algea on the glass for about a minute, but besides that, I haven't seen any activity. Is this normal? He seemed very active at the fish store, and was a real pain to catch.

Thanks,
Robb

that is very normal..sometimes it could take up to few months or more before they take any prepared foods.. I've had two and one now still the first one eat after two months while the one i have now took little over six months to eat prepared foods but only flakes and algae from a clip..

finicky little fish IMO....mine never took prepared.... i have had a Copperband eating like a pig for 2 years so its not on me...its on the lawnmower...wont get another one

When I got my lawnmower blenny at first he would hide out in a barnacle or in a hole in the rock. After 4-5 days he started hanging out on the rocks more and picking at the rocks for something to eat. He cleaned the rocks so well so I have started feeding him frozen Formula 2. After about 3 weeks of having him, he is eating the frozen food very well. I tried seaweed on a clip, but he does not bother with it.

The first month I had mine I thought it was dead in the rocks or crab bait. Now he's one of my more elusive but most beloved fish. He does NOT eat prepared of any sort, but he grazes constantly and I love his fat belly. I like the color changing the best, he changes colors so radically that at times I've mistaken him for the jawfish flashing through the rocks. He's a real mimic. Aggressive towards the sally light foot crabs, I'm fairly sure he's responsible for killing a big one. Rushes the tang at times, but usually those two are hanging out together grazing. Very strange but cool.

So it sounds like he's normal. I moved him into my main tank (75) this morning. He was hard to catch. He hid in a hole in a rock and wouldn't come out even when I lifted the rock from the water. I eventually had to poke at the hole to get him out and then he buried himslef in the sand so well I had a hard time finding him! He's been out swimming more in the big tank tonight.
