New Leishman Red Table colony

Just got this two days ago. Seems real happy so far. Question I have is on mounting it. It is fully healed but guy I got it from did not have a rock big enough/heavy enough to mount it on. I have several places I can mount it in the tank and I also picked up a nice heavy rock today for it as well. Colony is about 4 inch by 5 inch and is from one of the upsweep parts of the mother colony, you can see it was cut at the bottom of the picture. Any suggestions on mounting it. i have never done one before?

I would mount it to the side of a rock so it can continue to table.

So just epoxy it around the break line and the rock I mount it to?

I use reef safe putty for larger corals btw really nice where u get it??

Here locally in Northern Virginia. A local reef member has an absolutley huge colony and he fragged this small one for me. Thanks for the advice aside from mounting the odd 1" frag to a plug I have never mounted something like this so I want to make sure I do it right and do not hurt the coral

Same concept as mounting a frag just more epoxy and more glue

yeah, you need to have it "hang" off a rock, the bottom part of the coral needs flow and access to food or it will die off from the bottom up.

Yep that is what I would do. I would also make a few small frags of it.

Build your base out of a soft puddy type reef safe epoxy and mold it itno place while it is still soft. Press the coral into the top the way you want to mount it. Move the coral and let the epoxy harden. Now use super glue gell (Quality brand there are many) and place the coral colony into the now hardened molded mountng spot. Apply glue to both surfaces and use a lot . Its cheap compared to coral. Hold the coral for a couple of secomds and it will stay. By making the mold and letting it harden you can place the new colony into about any position you want and lets you achieve that Bonzai hrizontal spread that some would strive for. You can also mold the base any way you want it and make it look very natural in a couple of months. Will post some images of colonies mounted this way shortly.....
