New Lemon Butterflies Now in Quarantine

I got these from Live Aquaria. They source from Quality Marine, I believe. These MAY be the captive bred Chaeotodon that Quality Marine is carrying. For those who don't know, Lemon (Millet seed) butterfly fish have been successfully captive bred from Rising Tide Conservation and Hawaii Oceanic Institute.

I got three of these for my 180 gallon Hawaiian biotope, an 8 foot X 2 foot X 18 inch (front to back). What's nice about the lemon butterfly is that it is a relatively easy to care for butterfly, that if well fed tends to avoid coral (personal experience, too), and can exist in groups in an aquarium. You'll note in the video below that they are out and about already. They've been nipping at the live rock in my QT, and have started eating SF Bay brand Angel and Butterfly food.

Goona keep a VERY careful watch for any infections, etc, and follow up on daily water chages to keep these guys happy!

No photos yet. At least nothing exciting yet. I am not doing Hawaiian coral as #1, you can't get it, because it apparently is illegal to export, and #2, I'm only doing mushrooms and zoas, which aren't really Hawaiian anyway. If the Lemons kill the coral that I have, then I will go completely FOWLR and add in an auriga, a lunula, a canthagaster puffer, and some others that are coral destroyers1 So either way I will be happy.

So here are a few photos of the butterflies. I noticed a strange brownish spot on the lower left side of one of the fish. The fish moves around so fast that it is difficult to get a fix on it. I tried some photos with continuous shooting so that I could get a picture of the spot. Below, this is about the best that I can manage. Anyone have any idea what this could be? It does seem that it is a bit bigger than it was last week.

I was guessing it might be a flatworm of some sort, so this morning I began prazi pro. When I got the fish I also did a freshwater/methylene blue dip.

By the way, the fish is a bit more timid than the others, (makes me think it IS compromised) but eats just as much as the others, which is a lot.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone may be able to provide.

That's not a good sign.

My previous butterflyfish from QM broke down with those sores and spread to other fish. They didn't make it.

Wrote to the Wet Web Media folks. Bob Fenner responded and stated that it appeared to him to be a sore that might have been induced during collection, and suggested a wait and see attitude. So that's what I'm doing. Hopefully the fish will heal.
