I found a healthy orange spot file fish this past week and after spending more on food than the actual fish, I've found that he eats New Life Spectrum Optimum Salt H20 Flakes like it's crack. When I first got the fish I offered mysis, brine (live and frozen), blood worms, and a multitude of other frozen foods (chopped krill, mussels, squid, and rotifers). After some reading, I decided to try some spectrum brands foods. I tied the pellets first and he went for it, but even the smallest size (I think 1 mm) seemed to be too big. He'd go for it, but couldn't get it down. I went back to the LFS and found the New Life Spectrum Optimum Salt H20 Flakes, which he eats like candy. My question is this: I still feed the other frozen foods to the tank for other inhabitants, but will the flakes provide sufficient nutrition assuming he never takes to the frozen offerings?
Also, I know some still question whether these fish can survive without a steady source of SPS to munch on. That is not my question. I have read of enough people that have had these fish for a considerable time period, including breeding. I'm more questioning if, in general, the flake food mentioned above is sufficient for general fish nutrition.
Thanks,
Mark
